The Social Work Department of the College of Public Affairs of Mindanao State University–Main
Campus will observe its Annual Celebration of the Social Work Week with the theme “Empowering
Social Workers” in observance of the steadfast determination and servitude of the social workers to
advance community development and life empowerment as well as in commemoration of its founding
anniversary since its inception in 1983. With this, the Social Work Student Association presents the
aggregates of each daily activity and their corresponding budgetary requirements for the whole course of
the Social Work Celebration.
This year, our overarching theme is empowering social workers,” intricately tied to the concept of
the “House of Dragons”. The five houses, each named after a dragon, represent each level including the
faculties and SWSA. The following are the names of the houses:
To determine your house, we’ll be conducting a draw lots session, with a representative from
each batch to witness this session. For the diverse range of activities, we will have:

II. OBJECTIVES.
These are the general objectives for the celebration of Social Work Week:
To use the Social Work Week Celebration to highlight the accomplishments and milestones of the
Social Work Department by showcasing successful projects, impactful community initiatives, and
positive outcomes achieved by students, faculties, and alumni.
To foster a sense of community spirit by involving current students, alumni, faculties, and the broader
community through establishing networking efforts and collaboration, creating a supportive
environment for everyone associated with the Social Work Department.
To create a positive and celebratory atmosphere that reinforces the sense of belonging among the
social work community by reflecting on past achievements, showcasing students’ talents and
innovativeness, setting future endeavors for the social work community, and engaging stakeholders
for better community involvement.

The Opening Day of the Social Work Week Celebration shall be held at the MSU Grandstand on
March 4, 2024, and will highlight the parade, the welcoming of the guests and the alumni body, the
Sigaw Kalye competition, and the Palarong Pinoy. The event will be styled with Maranao cultural
ornamentations and festivities and thereby, the expected number of attendees will exceed more than 400
people.
The Psychosocial Seminar shall be conducted on the second day of the Social Work Week
Celebration from which it shall be facilitated by the 4 th Year Social Work Students for their subject course
in BSW196 (Seminar on Current Trends in Social Work Practice). The said seminar shall be conducted on
March 5, 2024.
The Pasikatay 2024 will be the most highlighted event in the Social Work Week Celebration
from which the students shall display their cultural expression, skill development and enhancement,
resourcefulness, and creativity for the presentation of Comical Skit as well the exhibition of the Short
Film. The event will be held in the MSU International Convention Center on March 6, 2024.

The Social Work Quiz Show will be the highlight of the fourth day in which it will be conducted
at the CPA amphitheater on March 7, 2024. This competition will highlight the academic competence and
learning skills of the social work students anchored in the basic knowledge of the social work profession
as well the current trends in the social work profession. Each team shall consist of four members, that
comprises of one student from each batches. For identification and security purposes, all participants are
required to submit pertinent documents ahead of the competition. The content of the quiz show shall be
formulated by the Social Work Department of MSU-Main Campus.
The Search for the Social Work Mr. and Ms. Ambassador will be the culminating night event
of the Social Work Week Celebration from which the candidates will represent their designated houses
and present their advocacy platforms anchored in the social work arena, with their wits, and their charm.
The main theme of the event will be Ruby, since it is the 40 th Anniversary Celebration of the Social Work
Department since its inception in 1983. The event will be held in the MSU International Convention
Center on March 8, 2023.
