2. Story.
My friend Geetha and I went to the garden. There were many children. They were playing different
games. We kept our bags under a tree and started playing. After some time, Geetha stopped playing
and came to me. She held out a pencil and said, “Meena! I found this pencil there. Is it yours?” I
looked at the beautiful cartoon head pencil. I said, “I like that pencil, Geetha. But, it’s not mine.” ‘It’s
mine”, shouted a boy who was behind us. Geetha gave him the pencil and we started playing again.

Soliloquy of an Orphan Boy
I am an orphan. I have no parents. I have no brothers and sisters. I always wonder. What is my
name? Who are my parents? Why did they leave me here? Where are they? When would I
meet them? Which place do they belong to? How did I end up in an orphanage? I have no
answers to these questions. I am an orphan. I have no one.

One day I went to a good doctor. I said I had a bad headache. He told me to go to the pretty garden
nearby. I went into the garden. I touched the red roses. I admired the yellow chrysanthemums. I
plucked a blueberry and ate it. The little ants were everywhere very busy and moving fast. There were
different butterflies flying everywhere. One more beautiful than the other. Then, I saw a big guava on a
guava tree. I took a slow walk through the garden. I felt like a new person. I am a happy person, now. I
am not that sad boy anymore.
