Eid ul Fitar
• Eid ul Fitr is the biggest Muslim festival
observed through out the world. It is the

main festival of Bangladesh. This is held
on the day following the Ramadan or the
month of fasting. In Dhaka big
congregations are held at the national
Eidgah and at many mosques.

Eid ul Azha
• It is the second biggest festival of Muslims. It is held marking the
hajj in mecca on 10th Zil Haj, the lunar month. Eid congregations
are held throughout the country. Animals are sacrificed in
reminiscence of Hazrat Ibrahim’s preparedness for the supreme
sacrifice of his beloved son to Allah. It is a public holiday.

Eid e Miladunnabi
• Eid e Miladunnabi is the birth and death day of prophet
Muhammad (PBUH). He was born and died the same day on
12th Rabi ul Awal. The day is a national holiday, national flag is
flown atop public and private houses and special food is served
in orphanages, hospitals and jails. At night important public
buildings are illuminated and milad mahfils are held.

Muharram

• Muharram procession is a
ceremonial mourful procession of
Muslim community. It is observed
on 10th muharram in memory of

Pahela baishakh
• Pahela baishakh or bangla noboborsho is
the first day of Bengali calender. It is

celebrated on 14th April as a national
holiday in Bangladesh irrespective of
their religious faith. It is celebrated with
great enthuasiasm. Many fairs are held in
dhaka and in other towns.

Victory day
• Bangladesh celebrate victory day on 16th December.
On this day, after nine month long independence
war with Pakistan, the occupying armed forces of
Pakistan formally surrendered to the allied forces of
Bangladesh in 1971.
Independence Day

• One of the main state festivals in Bangladesh


is independence day. The day is observed
on 26th march every year. On this day in
1971, Bangabandhu sheikh Mujibur
Rehman declared the independence of
Bangladesh. On this day, country wears a
celebratory look especially in capital city
and other major cities of the country.
Bangladeshi people celebrate this day with
great devotion and passion.

Language movement
day
• Language movement day is a unique part of the
culture of Bangladesh. Every year on
February 21, this day is observed to pay
tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their
lives to establish Bengali as the official
language of then east Pakistan in 1952. The
mood of the day is humble and sad. The
celebration of this day goes on the entire
month of February. Ekushey book fair is
arranged every year on this occasion. The fair
has also become an integral part of the
culture of Bangladesh.

Durga puja

• The hindu community observes


their biggest religious festival
popul;arly known as durga
puja throughout the country
for ten days and the last three
days being culmination with
the idol immersed in rivers.

Christmas
• Christmas, popularly called Bara Din, is celebrated
with pomp in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country. It
is a government holiday and is celebrated on 25th
December .Several large long gatherings are held at
ST Mary’s Cathedral at Ramna, Portuguese church at
Tejgaon, church of Bangladesh on johnson road and
Bangladesh Baptist sangha at Sadarghat Dhaka.

Primary Education
§ The overall responsibility of management of primary education lies with the ministry of
Primary and Mass Education ( MOPME) and Directorate of Primary Education (DPE).
§ Bangladesh has one of the largest primary education systems in the world. There are total
37,672 government primary schools in the country. Primary education is free of cost.

Ø Fazil (XIII-XV) Equivalent to degrees.
Ø Kamil (XV-XVI) Equivalent to masters.

The literacy rate in Bangladesh Has risen remarkably over the past
decade to an all time high of 72.76% in 2016, according to data
from the Unesco institute for statistics.

The figure marks an increase of 26.1 percentage points from 2007,


when the literacy rate was mere 46.66%. Over the same period,
literacy rate for females has risen from 43.74% to 69.90%, and for
males from 49.83% to 75.62%.
