HISTORY OF BANGLADESH

Bangladesh is a southeast Asian country. It stands on the Bay of Bengal,


which is on the south and the other three sides are surrounded by India.
Bangladesh has a attractive natural beauty. Bangladesh became
independent in 1971. During the dissolution of British of India, there
was much debate over where the boundaries of the Muslim and Hindu
states should lie. It was decided that the Muslim state should control
Pakistan along with Bengal. Despite the peaceful agreement of the
states, there was much violence on the borders with 50-50 populations,
where Muslims wanted to be Pakistani and Hindus wanted to be Indian.
The dust absorbed into India and east Bengal being absorbed into
Pakistan. Beginning in the late 1940s, there was a rise of Bengali
nationalism and fraction with west Pakistan, what is modern day
Pakistan. And east Pakistan is now Bangladesh. In 1947, the people of
east Pakistan realized the unfair, unfriendly and suppressing attitude of
west Pakistan dominated Pakistani rulers. In 1948, Mr. Jinnah the
governor general of Pakistan declared at Dhaka that Urdu alone would
be the state language. 21st February is known as international Mother
language day. More than 188 countries in the world with lots of respect.
It has a huge story behind this day. Lots of people sacrificed their lives
to make Bengali their mother language. IN 1952, when Bangladesh was
colonized by Pakistan the rulers declared that Urdu will be the state
language. Then students and the people of Bangladesh didn’t accept that
and protested against the decision. On 21st February 1962, in rally police
killed lots of people. With their sacrifice of life, they got Bengali as their
mother language. Salam, Jabbar, Rafik, Barkat, etc. Shaheeds are mostly
known as the martyrs of the language revolution. The people build
Shaheed Miner to pay respect for them. On the might of March 25,
1971, the barbarous Pak Army launched an inhuman attack on the
innocent, unarmed and peace-loving citizens of Bangladesh. On that
night Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence of Bangladesh
thought he was arrested on that very night: From that night struggle and
fighting between Bangladeshi freedom fighters and west Pakistani
soldiers started. The Pak Army killed Bengali like cats and doge, burnt
their houses, looted their property, raped their women folk and so on.
But no bullet could subdue the indomitable spirit of Bangladeshi
nationalism. After nine months hard struggle, Bangladesh emerged as an
independent state. The 26th March is celebrated as the Independence
Day. People anxiously wait to observe the day. On this day we pay rich
tributes to the memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the
sake of our independence. The Govt. different organization and
institutions chalk out detailed programmers to celebrate the day. Every
year, the day is observed in a befitting manner. throughout the country.
The national flag is hoisted in all important offices, private and public
students gather together and hoist the national flag solemnly. In town
and cities, the national flag is hoisted ceremonially in the midst of
jubilation of innumerable people with crackers, bombs, and drams.

Educational Institutions and offices remain closed. Houses and all
important places are well decorated. Dhaka, the capital of our country,
takes a festive look. After mid-day, seminars are held in most of the
educational institutions. Special prayers are offered for the martyrs in all
mosques, temples cultural organizations hold functions to commemorate
the day. In the evening all the houses, important private and government
buildings are illuminated. Radio and Television centers issue special
program. The beggars are given alms and fed. Sweets are distributed
among the children. As it is a cheerful day in the history of Bangladesh,
various kinds of games and sports are held to celebrate this day.
Generally games like football, volleyball, cricket, boat-race etc. are held
in different places including thana and district towns. The people attend
cultural functions and theatrical performances arranged for the
occasion. The 26th of March, 1971 signaled the start of the liberation
war of Bangladesh. This day reminds the people who sacrificed their
valuable lives. Now in 2021 Bangladesh celebrates 50years of
independence. Aligned with the Government of Bangladesh’s goal of
attaining Upper-Middle income Country status by 2031.
