General rules

1. No one is supposed to communicate with the judges. Any communication shall be through secretary or
non-participating general secretary Social & Cultural, TSG. Every time a person violates this rule 10%
points will be deducted from score.

2. Slot picking will be done in the sub-committee meeting. Exchange of slots between any halls can be done
if the concerned halls agree, but the gymkhana secretary should be informed about the change at least 24
hours before the scheduled start of the event.

3. Any hall picking a slot in sub-committee meeting of event and then if does not turn up in the event then
that hall will be debarred from the General Championship social and cultural for that year.

4. A team has to inform at least 24 hours before the event if it does not wish to participate. After this 25% of
the event marks will be deducted from the GC.

5. Slots will be advanced by one or two on the same day but the day will not be changed, unless the team
that has to change the day consents to do so.

6. Rules will be read out to the judges 5 min before the event starts and there will be no other rules other
than those specified.

7. For all events, the decision of the judges will be final and binding.

8. The performing team is not allowed to announce/reveal the name of the hall of residence or the performers
during the event. If it does so, 10% of the total marks will be deducted.

9. If a team does not obey any of the rules for which the penalty is not mentioned, the automatic penalty will be
a deduction of 10% of the marks obtained by that team.(Penalty will be imposed on that slot not hall)

10. The list of the name of participants (cast) should be submitted to the gymkhana secretary at the time
of event.

11. If one judge doesn’t turn up on the second day, then standings will be decided on the basis of the judge
who was present throughout the event.

12. In case of malfunctioning of any equipment provided by the Gymkhana side, the team will be allowed to
repeat their performance from the last scene change or from the point of disruption that the team wishes
.It depends on the judges' discretion as to how much grace time will be given to the performing team. The
timing will be stopped AS SOON AS the hall representative conveys the situation to the TSG Secretary.
13. For all events, the decision of the judges will be final and binding.
Dance And Dramatics

General Rules for Dramatics and Choreography:


● Use of flames in objects like candles, matches or cigarettes or any other kind of flame or any
alcoholic substance or live animals during a performance on stage is not allowed and will result
in disqualification.

● No team can make announcements to the audience or judges before or after the time slot of a team either
in dramatics or choreography.

● For turning up late by 10 min there will be no penalties. For the next 5 min 5% of the total marks obtained
will be deducted. After this i.e. 15 min the team will be debarred from the event.

● Recorded voices and instrumentals are allowed in dramatics and choreography. No meaningful words
are allowed in recording. Electronically modulated voice is not allowed.

● In case of malfunctioning of any equipment provided by the Netaji Auditorium , the team will be allowed to
repeat their performance from the last scene change or from the point of disruption that the team wishes
.It depends on the judges' discretion as to how much grace time will be given to the performing team. The
timing will be stopped as soon as the hall representative conveys the situation to the TSG Dramatics
Secretary.

● Timings will be maintained on a piece of paper, and the beginning and ending times will be noted and signed
by the TSG dramatics secretary and a representative of the team performing. For the performance of the
hall of which the secretary is a resident, the timings will have to be countersigned by a member of other hall.
This holds for all the three events.

● Slots will be advanced by one or two on the same day but the day will not be changed, unless the team
that has to change the day consents to do so.

● Rules will be read out to the judges 5 min before the event starts and there will be no other rules other than
those specified.

● Reporting time for all the team representatives is 1 hour before the event starts to confirm participation.
If preponing is to be made then it will be made by half an hour.

● It is secretary’s responsibility to return the script after the performance to the respective hall as soon as
the judge returns it.

● Use of UV lights shall not be allowed during Dramatics and Choreography.

● It will be ensured by the TSG dramatics secretary that all the lights are in working condition after
the performance of every hall. If there is any problem, it will be announced.

● In case of any dispute, the judge will be presented with the argument in favour and against the
situation openly by the gymkhana dramatics secretary and judge's decision will be final and binding.

Choreography (100 points)

No. of Teams per Hall: 1


Duration of each performance: 15 minutes on stage + 15 seconds of buffer time (Empty stage to empty stage)
(+15 min setup time).
The setup time would start when a person enters the stage.

Other rules and regulations:

● Recorded voices and instrumentals are allowed in choreography. No meaningful words are allowed in the
recording. The electronically modulated voice is not allowed.The seven notes “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni”
are an exception.
● Judges will verify empty stage and once verified no other hall can claim objection to it.

● Light Practice duration: 15 mins


Penalty:

If a team exceeds 15 min, 5% of the total marks will be deducted. If a team exceeds 17 min then an additional
10% i.e. a total of 15% of their total score will be deducted. If a team exceeds 20 min then the team stands to be
debarred from the event.

Stage Play (100 points)

Duration of each play: Total 60 minutes – “Empty stage to Empty Stage” . 20 mins for stage and
light setup.
Appreciation Trophies: Best Actor, Best Direction, Best Script, Best Supporting Actor, Best lights
and sounds

Other rules and regulations:

● The act should be in English or Hindi or both.

● Judges will verify empty stage.Once verified, no objection can be claimed upon it by any hall of residence.

● Obscenity is left to the judge's discretion.

● Recorded voices and instrumentals are allowed in a Stage play. No meaningful words are allowed in the
recording. The electronically modulated voice is not allowed.The seven notes “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni”
are an exception.

● Light practice duration: 45 mins

● Buffer Time: 30 sec

● Submission of all the audio tracks to be used should be done before the commencement of the event.

Penalty:
1. If a team exceeds 60 min, 10% of the marks obtained by the team will be deducted. If a team exceeds 65
min, an additional 15% i.e. 25% of the total marks obtained will be deducted. If a team exceeds 70 min, it
stands to be debarred from the event. There will be a buffer time of 30 seconds for the performance.

2. Inappropriate content and vulgarity/obscenity will not be tolerated and may lead to 10% penalty.

● Obscenity is left to the judge's discretion.

● Exceeding of time due to applause shall not be considered for negative marking.

● Adaptation/modifications from other street plays is allowed.

● Usage of fire, water or smoke is not allowed.

● Only live music is allowed.

Penalty:

● Exceeding the time limit will cause deduction of 10% marks for every 2 min extra.

● After 19 minutes, the team will be disqualified.

MUSIC

General rules for Music Events:


● Participants will be called according to their slots decided, by the entertainment secretary to perform in the
event.
● If any rules mentioned in the rule book or decided in the subcommittee, who’s penalty is not mentioned is
violated; it will result in 10 % deduction from final total score.

● Judge evaluates from amps ON to amps OFF. Participant him/ herself says amps ON and amps OFF in
individual event. Violation of this rule leads to penalty of 10 % reduction from individual marks.

● Electronic tanpura can be used.

GROUPS (150 points)

No. of teams per Hall: 1

Duration: Maximum of 40 mins + 15 mins(for setup) [Every team will get 15 mins before the Performance for sound
check ]

Penalty:

● For all the groups the maximum performance time is 40 minutes exceeding which the team will be penalized
as :- 0-1 min : 10% , 1-2 min : 15% , >2 will be disqualified.
● Within 10 minutes of the scheduled time or the time of ending of the previous team’s performance (whichever
is later) any member of the next performing group should report to the entertainment secretary, TSG if there
is some problem causing the delay. If the team reports then the decision is left to the judge. If no one reports
within 10 minutes then the team is disqualified.

Other rules and regulations:

● The performance time starts with “amps on” and ends with “amps off”.

● There should be at least 4 persons in active mode on the stage in a particular piece.

● In synthesizers and guitars, no pre recorded beats or pieces will be allowed. Change of instrument is
allowed.

● Bass, tom tom & snare of the first group will be made available to all the groups but using them is not
mandatory.
● Any group using any sort of music system (cassette/CD player) shall be disqualified.

● Problems arising out of technical faults (concerning mikes of power or instruments) shall be decided upon by
the judges and shall be final and binding. In such a case the participant shall be allowed to restart the
particular piece. Timing per song shall be maintained.

● If the song is purely instrumental then the marks of vocals are transferred to instruments.

Instrumentals (60 points)(Eastern/Western)

Duration:Time limit is (8+1) minutes. Setup time: 10 mins

Penalty:

Exceeding the time limit will lead to penalty as 0-1 min: 15% ,1-2 min: 25% , >2 mins: will be disqualified.

Other rules and regulations:

● In each performance at max two accompanying instruments are allowed.

● The time will start when gymkhana secretary says “start” after taking the verbal confirmation from the
participants that he/she is ready to begin. The gymkhana secretary will ring the warning bell at 8 min and
final bell at 9 min.

● No pre-recorded beats or pieces are allowed for accompanists.

● Vocal accompanist is not allowed.

● Problems arising out of technical faults (concerning mikes of power or instruments) shall be decided by the
judges and their decisions shall be binding upon all the participants. In such a case, the participants would
be allowed to restart the particular piece.

● If a person changes a piece then the Entertainment secretary TSG has to note the time for individual pieces
and the participant must mention if he/she is changing the piece.

● Point will made public immediately after the event.

● For accompanists on a keyboard, the instrument cannot be changed while playing a particular piece.
Recorded music and programming is not allowed in the keyboard.

● For accompanists in a guitar, processor can be used in any possible effect, but once an effect has been
chosen, it cannot be changed during the time the song is being played.

● For main instrumentalist for a keyboard, the instrument can be changed while playing a particular piece(i.e
cannot be changed within the piece) Recorded music and programming is not allowed in the keyboard.
● For main instrumentalist in a guitar, processor can be used in any possible effect and can be changed during
the time song is being played.
● Metronome is allowed.
● Sound check is included in set up time.

Other rules and regulations:

● In each performance at max two accompanying instruments allowed. The person singing can also play the
instrument other than accompaniment. In one piece, max two instrumental accompanists are allowed. While
changing piece, the instrumental accompanist can be changed.

● The Time will start when the Gymkhana secretary says “ START “ after taking the verbal confirmation from
the participants that he or she is ready to begin .The Gymkhana secretary will ring the warning bell at 8 min
and final bell at 9 min .

● No pre-recorded beats or pieces will be allowed for accompanists.

● Vocal accompanist not allowed.

● Problems arising out of technical faults (concerning power of mikes or instruments ) shall be decided by the
judges and their decisions shall be binding upon all the participants .In such a case , the participants would
be allowed to restart the particular piece .

● No pre-recorded sound would be produced on stage by any record playing device and every sound
produced on stage is either vocal or from an instrument.

● While changing to a particular piece, participant has to inform that he/she is starting the next piece.

Penalty:

Exceeding the time limits participants would be penalized as : 0 -1 min ( 10 % ) , 1 – 2 min ( 15 % ) , more than 2 min

– will be disqualified.

FINE ARTS AND DESIGN
General Rules:
1. All the base sheets of A2 size will be provided by T.S.G.

2. Nobody is allowed to cut the base sheets.

3. Burning of any kind is not allowed.

4. No printed material is allowed in any event.

5. Late coming teams should be within 15 minutes after the event has started.

6. Nothing to write on the base sheets except in cartooning.

7. Nobody is allowed to leave before 1 hour from the starting of the event.

8. Cellular phones are not allowed during the event.

9. No identification marks should be there regarding the hall, team members etc. Any such mark will
lead to disqualification.

10. Walkman is allowed.

11. All correspondence should be through fine arts secretary.

12. Disobeying of any rule will lead to disqualification.

13. Judges decision will be final and binding to all.

14. Interchange of the sheets would lead to disqualification.

15. End time of the event is strict.

16. If anyone wishes to leave in between the event that participant has to submit his/her entry, the person
cannot enter again and that his/her entry would not be returned.

17. No second sheet will be provided in any of the event.

18. The sheets should have T.S.G stamp and the signature of the fine arts secretary.

19. All hall representatives will sign on the seal of the envelope that contains the topic.

20. Only late coming participants will be disqualified and not the team.

21. On the spot judging will be done.

22. No person would be allowed with the judge at the time of judging except the Secretary and General
Secretary of the Gymkhana.
24. Digital watches are not allowed.
Painting(60 Points)

No. of participants per Hall: 3

Duration- 3 hours

Note: Individual event (on the spot) in which the participants will be free to use their
creativity and paint.

Other rules and regulations:

● Medium- Acrylic paints

● Participants will be provided a A2 canvas and canvas stand. Participants need to bring their own
paints.
● Marks of pencil, marker or crayons should not be present in the final submission.

● Brushes of all kinds are allowed.


● Canvas stands are NOT allowed.

● Individual event (on the spot) in which participants need to sketch related to given theme.

● Smudging done by paper, cloth,hand is not allowed, use of pencil is allowed but if the judge finds it
smudged then a 10% penalty will be imposed.

● Drawing Sheet- White A2, will be provided on spot.
● No external help (eg. internet) is allowed during the event.
● Use of marker and any geometrical instrument is not allowed.
● Smudging is not allowed
● Black pencils (6H..........6B) are allowed.

Thermocol and Clay modelling(100 Points)

No. of teams per Hall: 1(6 participants- 3 for Thermocol and 3 for Clay Modeling)

Duration: 6 hours

Other rules and regulations:

● Only thermocol and paper pins would be provided by T.S.G.

● People of thermocol modeling can take part in clay modeling and vice versa provided

at any instant only three people take part in thermocol modeling and clay modeling.

● No coloring is allowed.

● No exposed adhesive tapes.

● Fevicol and cutter would not be provided by T.S.G.

● Base and clay would be provided by T.S.G.

● Usage of any burning material like dendrite that burns thermocol chemically is not allowed.

● Burning of any kind is not allowed in any of the events.

● No size limit for models.

● Pins if seen during the judging will be penalised. No one can approach the judge after the judging for this
issue.

Judging Criteria

Will be finalized by judge before the event.


Literary
General Rules
● A representative of the hall whose speaker is speaking must sit along with the timekeeper, verify the
time recorded and put his sign. If the hall doesn’t send a representative, no complaint will be
entertained.

● Any communication with the judge has to be through the gymkhana literary secretary or the social and
cultural general secretaries. Initiation of any kind of communication with the judge by the participant will
lead to 10% deduction from the total marks.

● In case of any dispute, the judge will be presented with the argument in favour and against the
situation openly by the gymkhana literary secretary and judge's decision will be final and binding.
● In case of a power cut the speaker can restart. In case of any technical failure, speaker can ask for a restart.

Debate(60 Points)

No of participants per Hall-2

Note:Topic will be released 72 hrs before the event

Duration: Total speaking time of 4+1 min will be given to each participant.

Other rules and regulations:

● The speech has to be delivered in English or Hindi.

● One will speak in favor of the topic and the other against it.

● Time begins from the instant the judge says “START”. Time will be allowed for the checking of the
microphone. Bell should be rung at the end of 4 min and 5 min by the literary secretary of gymkhana.

● Internet usage is strictly not allowed.

● Maximum of two interventions is allowed from the participants after the speaker has put forward his/her
argument, no intervention is allowed from the participant of performing hall or the audience. The selection of
intervener depends upon the judge. (no part questions are allowed). In case there is no question from the
participants in the rebuttal round, the judge must ask at least one question to the speaker to settle the
rebuttal point. There are no marks for asking questions but your answers will be taken into account while
doing the marking.

● Judge’s decision will be final and binding.

● Podium has to be used. Participant has to stand behind the podium with respect to the judge. Movement of
upper part of the body is allowed. No part of the body should be seen beyond the podium frame.
Penalty:

There will be a penalty for exceeding the time limit (15% of the marks scored, for up to 30 secs exceeded).

Exceeding the time limit by more than 30 secs will lead to disqualification.

IMPT: BENGALI ELOCUTION WOULD BE PRIMARILY A PART OF BENGALI CUP AND THE POINTS
WOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR BOTH THE CUPS.

Other Rules and regulations:

● The participant has to visually or verbally convey that he is ready, when asked by the Gymkhana literary
secretary and time starts from the moment he utters the first word of his speech. Time will be allowed for
checking the microphone. Bell should be rung at the end of 4 min and 5 min by the literary secretary.
● There is no penalty for carrying the script to be presented.

● You may or may not use the microphone.

● Dramatization will not be taken into account while doing the marking.

● Identity and hall of the participant will not be mentioned.

● Podium has to be used. Participant has to stand behind the podium with respect to the judge. Movement
of upper part of the body is allowed.(Part of body above podium)
● For violation of any rule for which penalty is not mentioned, 10% of the total marks will be reduced.
● Judge and podium will be aligned along with the camera.
● Stool is allowed for standing but participants need to bring their own stool.
● Remarks of penalties given by the judge should be given along with his signature.
Penalty:

There will be a penalty for exceeding the time limit (15% of the marks scored, for up to 30 secs exceeded).

Exceeding the time limit by more than 30 seconds may lead to disqualification.

What's the Good Word (75 Points):


No of teams per hall: 1 (one team of 3 participants)
Other Rules and regulations:

● Time limit for each round will be specified before each round by the judge.

● 3 clues can be passed on.

● The word guessed must not be a different grammatical form of the word.

● The teams must adhere to the start and stop signal. They will be penalized for violating the rule (20
seconds will be added to the score).
● The first clue must be a synonym or an antonym or a related word.

● In any clue not more than 2 consecutive letters of the word can be passed on. Moreover, the first two
alphabets of the three words in order should not constitute the first six alphabets of the given word.
● No enacting / mime is allowed.

● Any number of guesses is allowed.

● Time will be noted from the instant the judge has given the word up to the time the judge is sure that the
team has cracked the word. No objections will be entertained in this respect. The participant needs to
be loud enough to avoid time wasting.

● You are allowed to spell out the word only if asked by your teammates.

● Once a set of clues is passed it cannot be changed.

● If the meaning/hint is given, there will be a penalty of 20 seconds.

● In case the team doesn't guess the word at the end of 60 seconds an additional 20 seconds will be added
to the already existing score.
● In case the meaning has been given by the judge, time will start after the meaning has been given and
the judge has said “start”.
● Proper nouns are not allowed.

● In case of direct communication with the judge, the team will be disqualified from that round, and the
timing for the round will be doubled and added to the already existing score.
● In case of dispute the judge’s decision is final and binding.

● There will be 3 rounds of words in addition to a rapid-fire round described


below: The rapid-fire round will consist of 10 rounds.

(a). To be passed in 120 seconds.

He/she cannot return to the word again.

General Quiz (100 Points) :


No of teams per hall: 1 (one team of 4 participants)

Other Rules and regulations:

● Total points to be allotted, bonus points, etc is on quiz master’s discretion.

● All decisions of the quiz master are final and binding.

● In case of prompting, the course of action depends upon the quiz master.

● Drawing of lots will do sitting allocation.

● Tiebreaker will be there in case more than one team occupies any one or more of the top
three places.
● No exchange of slots is allowed.
● Initiation of any kind of communication with the judge by the participant will lead to 10% deduction
from the total marks.

Film and Photography


● The competition is theme based. Four themes will be released out of which, the teams have to
choose only one to make the film and declare the same at the time of submission as
described under Submission Rules.

● There’s no limit on the size of cast and crew. Cast needs to be declared at the time of submission.

● Actors need not be members of a specific hall!


● Submission: Physical,( Pen-Drive: “.mp4” files, subtitle file, a word file declaring the cast) the
Secretary will be present on the day of submission in Sports Library(or other venue as informed),
Gymkhana, 10 P.M. onwards, with his laptop. You have to verify that you have the correct Pen
Drive. Once verified your submission will be accepted, and time of submission will be noted down!

● A failure to the .mp4 rule will lead to direct disqualification.

● Mandatory to submit the subtitle file, failure will lead to a 5% penalty.

● Submitted films and subtitles must be named: “ SFM_SLOT_THEME<1/2/3/4>”.

● (Slots will be given on the spot, as the various Hall come for submission)

● In case of failure in properly naming the file, in such a manner, that theme is unclear/wrongly
declared, the team will be fully responsible and no alterations/ considerations will be made
once the submission has been made.

● Film Duration: 5-15 mins.

● No credit sequence in the movie, failure to this leads to direct disqualification.

● Disclaimer: A disclaimer needs to be put at the beginning of the movie, in case it contains, strong
language, display of tobacco, drugs, alcohol and or any other vulgarity, obscenity, and depravity
that might offend human sensibilities.

● The fact that the team has given a disclaimer gives it no right to show whatever they want( full
nudity etc.). In case the judges still find it offensive and off-topic, they’ll be free to decide the
penalty, and the decision by the judges will be final and binding.

● Hall Anonymity: In any <way/ manner>, any hall’s identity must not be explicitly revealed!

● Usage of stock footage or footage shot before the declaration of themes is not allowed.

● In case such material is found it will lead to a 35% penalty.

● The complete visible part of the screen cannot be completely taken or used from a source for
which you cannot provide raw footage with the time stamps, within the time period of the event
( i.e. from the declaration of themes to the submission deadline).

● Participating teams must retain raw footage until the judging. And must present it in case of
grievance redressal. Failure to present would lead to a 35% penalty.

● Penalties for late submission:

● Up to one hour of deadline: 10% deduction on points scored

● Up to three hours of deadline: 20% deduction on points scored

● After three hours of deadline: Disqualification

● Penalties for film not fitting in the given time duration:

● Within 30 seconds of the limits: 10% deduction on the points scored


● Within a minute of the limits: 25% deduction on the points scored

● More than a minute of the limits: Disqualified

● Free use of script or music. No penalty for plagiarism.

● Judging Criterion:

○ Story and Scripting(relevance and originality): 25

○ Cinematography: 20

○ Editing( Sound and video): 20

○ Direction: 25

○ Overall Impact(Production Design, Background Score Fit, Overall Conveying the Idea): 10

● At the time of judging, General Secretaries of Halls will be sent their slots, however, they can
be present during the whole screening.

● Each hall can have up to five representatives during their judging/ screening.
● After the screening, the judges will discuss, and they might ask for the raw footages of some
scenes, they desire, any Hall Rep/ G.Sec must present the demanded clips/ evidence, within
5 minutes of the demand being made. Otherwise, the penalty will be imposed.

● Within 5 minutes of the demand being made, the hall representative/ team representative must
respond in one of the two ways:

● Present evidence. (If proper no penalty, otherwise 35% penalty)

● Refuse to present evidence. (35% penalty)

● The Hall/(Team) representative must ensure that they do not try to communicate to the judges
directly, any such communication, if needed, must be through the Gymkhana Secretaries or
General Secretaries! In case any such communication is established, first, a warning will be
issued, followed by the disqualification of the Hall/(Team), whose representative, communicated.
