Prof. Dr.

Khan Shahzada
Brief:

I, Dr. Khan Shahzada, currently serve as a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the
University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar (UET), Pakistan. With extensive experience
in research, administration, and academia, I've authored over Seventy (70) research articles in
National and International journals, including two books titled “Seismic Risk Assessment of
Buildings” and “Field Practicing Manual.” Additionally, I've led various research projects,
primarily funded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), totaling around Rs. 50 million.
Currently, I am working as a Project coordinator, Dir Campus of UET Peshawar, I've successfully
finalized/submitted the revised PC1, outlining the establishment of five major departments and
basic amenities on the campus. Previously, I served as the Director of Postgraduate Studies for
over five years at UET Peshawar and held roles such as Chief Proctor (three years), Hostel Warden,
and In-charge of Survey Camp. My involvement extends to various committees, including the
Works Committee and Public Sector Development Programs (PSDP) Projects at UET Peshawar,
Abbottabad Campus. Currently, I'm an active Member of the Academic Council and Board of
Faculty at UET Peshawar.
I've contributed significantly outside academia, serving as the President of the Engineering
University Teachers Association (EUTA) for a year, addressing faculty issues with the
administration. Furthermore, I participate as a member of the “Provincial Housing Taskforce” on
affordable housing for the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aligning with the Prime
Minister's Initiative of five (05) million houses. My engagement also includes a membership on
the "Steering Committee" for seismic capacity assessment of buildings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
collaborating with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and developed Proforma for
visual inspection of buildings in the province. I am also a member of the Program Evaluation
Committee of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) for the Civil Engineering Discipline
nationwide. Additionally, I serve as a member of the Curriculum Committee for Civil Engineering
throughout the country, operating under the auspices of the Pakistan Engineering Council.
Through industry-focused research, I have successfully commercialized a construction
technique—Confined Dry-Stacked Block Masonry designed to withstand blast loading. This
accomplishment was realized through the signing of a commercial license agreement with Eco
Enterprises Islamabad, facilitated by UET Peshawar. Additionally, I have entered into a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with "PAVERCRAFT Private Limited," a company
specializing in the fabrication of pavers, concrete blocks, and bricks. Similarly, an MoU has been
established with SIMBRI Construction Solutions in Lahore for the development of new
construction materials. The commercialization process has been completed under the name
'SIMBRI Flyash Bricks.
Through consultancy services, I've contributed Rs. 60 million to UET Peshawar exchequer,
working on projects like the retrofitting and rehabilitation of Governor House Peshawar, District
Headquarter Hospital Abbottabad, Abdul Wali Khan Multiplex Secretariat Peshawar, Judicial
Complex Bannu, Qayum Stadium Peshawar and National Reserve Center (NRC) Godowns at
Azakhel Nowshera.
Within the academic realm, I've supervised over Eighty (80) MSc and four (4) PhD students, and
currently five (5) PhD and seven (7) MSc students are working under my supervision. Additionally,
I actively participate in research evaluation committees at various universities which include UET
Peshawar, UET Taxila, CECOS University and University of Peshawar. and serve on the editorial
boards of national and international journals. Beside this, I am also a member of the editorial
boards of various national and international journals and serve as a reviewer for leading scientific
journals. Additionally, I am actively involved as a member of the selection board at UET Mardan,
National Skills University Islamabad, and Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied
Sciences and Technology, Haripur.
Moreover, I have organized seminars, workshops, and international conferences within the
country. Additionally, I have attended several workshops, seminars, and conferences outside the
country where I presented my research work.
As a founding member and advisor of “Let’s Help Welfare Society (LHWS),” officially registered
at UET Peshawar, I'm dedicated to providing social and welfare services to students, ranging from
blood camps to psychological counseling and financial support for the needy.
My global research collaborations include partnerships with universities in the USA, Italy, Canada,
Turkey, and Hong Kong. I've attended workshops and conferences worldwide, including training
on Disaster Preparedness and Management at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey,
in 2019 for which I was nominated by UET Peshawar. Notably, I served as a visiting scholar at the
University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), USA, for a year in 2010, sponsored by HEC
Islamabad.
Lastly, I've been shortlisted for an interview for the position of Vice Chancellor in Punjab Province
by HED Punjab.
