Strong winds and more heavy rain are forecast

for this week as the Met Office names the
incoming Storm Ciarán with a 24-hour weather
warning in place for large parts of East
Yorkshire.

The storm follows flooding over the weekend in

a number of Hull and East Yorkshire areas,
caused by heavy rainfall. Low pressure will see
various weather fronts move through the UK,
with a deep area of low pressure, now named
Storm Ciarán, sweeping north-eastwards from
Wednesday night into and during Thursday, say
forecasters.

The Met Office has said rain will push into this
area in the early hours of Thursday. There are
expected to be heavy bursts, persistent in
places, with winds strengthening too
throughout the night on Wednesday, peaking
throughout the day on Thursday.

A 24-hour yellow-level weather warning has

now been issued between 6am on Thursday and
6am on Friday covering large parts of East
Yorkshire, stating disruption is possible due to
the storm. In the alert, the forecaster said:
"Periods of heavy rain associated with Storm
Ciarán will affect parts of northeast England
during Thursday. Rainfall amounts are likely to
reach 20-30 mm widely, with 40-60 mm
accumulating over high ground. Strong east to
northeast winds will accompany the rainfall,
possibly exacerbating any impacts."

The Met Office says there is a chance homes

and businesses could be flooded, along with
roads resulting in disruption and possible
public transport cancellations or delays.

Some heavy rain is forecast for Hull on

Wednesday, November 1, when temperatures
are expected to reach no higher than 13C. The
forecast is for heavy rain on Thursday, when
there could be periods when up to 8mm of
rainfall per hour will fall, and highs of 12C.
