How to apply:
Applications are to be submitted in triplicate to the Ministry of Education,
Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh in prescribed form through the
Bangladesh diplomatic mission in the country of domicile of the candidate or his/her
country's diplomatic mission in Bangladesh. All certificates and transcripts need to be
notarized by an authorized official of the Foreign Ministry of the candidate's own
country without which no application will be entertained.
Admission procedure:
On receipt of the application from the Bangladesh Ministry of Education, the
Equivalence Committee of the concerned Faculty of the University of Dhaka will
verify the eligibility of the student for admission in the desired program. If the student
is found eligible for the programme, the application will be sent to the Academic
committee of the concerned Department/Institute for their opinion. Finally, the Pro-
Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University will approve the admission. This
decision will be forwarded to the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education
will issue a no objection certificate to the concerned applicant in favour of his/her
admission. Thereafter, the applicant will be allowed to get admitted by paying fees
and other charges. On completion of all these necessary government formalities, the
application should reach the office of the Registrar, University of Dhaka by 31
December (of the year of applying).
Academic Session: July to June
1. The Applicant must have an M.Phil. Degree or have a 4 year Bachelor & a 1 year
Master’s degree from a recognised university.
OR
If the student have 3 year Bachelor Degree and 1 year Master’s, then the following
requirements are needed-
a) Candidates must have minimum 50% marks in all examinations with at least 2nd
division/class in their academic career. CGPA 3.5 out of 5 or CGPA 3 out of 4 in all
examinations from Secondary/Equivalent to Post Graduation if CGPA is in the norm.
Keeping this minimum marks the concerned Department/Institute/Ph.D. The sub-
committee/faculty will determine the educational qualification in their respective
fields. Ph.D. Other eligibility and conditions of registration will apply as per rules
prevailing in the programme.
Arts/Social Sciences/Business
Studies/Law/Arts/Science/Biology/Pharmacy/Engineering & Technology/Earth &
Environmental Sciences and full time Ph.D. The regular course of the researchers
shall be 4 (four) years from the date of joining the research as per rules and shall join
with 1 (one) year leave. They can submit the thesis after 2 (two) years. Departmental
Ph.D. The sub-committee may, if deemed necessary, impose conditions on a
researcher to undertake coursework as per rules.
Part-time Ph.D. Program will be arranged. Part time Ph.D. The period of registration
in the program shall be 5 (five) years from the date of joining the study. After 4 (four)
years the researcher can submit the thesis. However, if a researcher wants to submit
the thesis after completing the work at the end of three years, then he can submit the
thesis with the approval of the academic council along with the recommendation of
the supervisor and the departmental academic committee. Departmental Ph.D. The
Sub-Committee (where applicable) may, if deemed necessary, require a researcher to
undertake coursework as per rules.
