CHAPTER 3:

REASEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter focuses on the explanation of the research techniques and methods used by

the researcher to methodically address the issues raising for inquiry. In particular, this chapter

detailed the study methodology, population and samples, research equipment, data collection

process, and statistical treatment of the data needed for proper data analysis and interpretation.

Research Design

This study is using descriptive method of research. Descriptive research aims to

accurately and systematically describe a population, situation or phenomenon. It can answer

what, where, when and how questions, but not why questions. A descriptive research design can

use a wide variety of research methods to investigate one or more variables.

This study is made by the means of quantitative methods of researcher. The researcher

attempted to get the answers to the aforementioned problem and to justify and satisfy the

objectives of the study. Also, it made an effort to understand the various effects on their way of

life.

The Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study are composing of Grade 10 students in the community of St.

John the Baptist High School. All of these participants are selected through purposive sampling.

The respondents of the study will be the selected twenty-five (25) Grade 10 students of St. John

the Baptist High School enrolled for the academic year 2022-2023.
The student-respondents will purposely be chosen because the researchers believe that

through purposive sampling, we can obtain a representative sample by checking their online

activity, which can also result in saving time and finances (Black K.,2010)

Research Instrument

The main tool for acquiring data was a questionnaire. The to-be-prepared instrument

concentrated on providing a response to the problem's statement. The positive and negative

effects of excessive use of mobile phones.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers made a letter for the approval to conduct the study at St. John the Baptist

High School. The study was then conducted for 3 days with questionnaires with 14 questions for

the selected 25 respondents. Each respondent was brief and observed to answer the questions

credibly.
