 Make sure that your name and student number appear on every page of your assignment.
 The simplest approach is to complete the assignment by hand and scan your assignment as a PDF.
 Each question is worth one point.
 The data are in a separate Excel file in the Assignment folder on the course website.

The data file contains data for four variables (i.e., questions) and sixteen respondents.

Assume that this dataset is for a sample taken from a larger population.

1. It was noted that this dataset was for a sample taken from a larger population. What is this larger
population? There is no single right answer here, what is important is your explanation or
argument for your answer.
2. We used different words to describe variables:
a. Nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio
b. Discrete v. continuous
c. Counting v. measuring (process by means of which the data were collected)
d. Dichotomous (two categories) v. more than two categories
e. Observational v. experimental data

For each of the four variables, list the words that are appropriate.

3. Construct a frequency table for each of the four variables (value, count or frequency, relative
frequency, and percentage).
4. Give an appropriate graphical representation for each of the variables. (Note that is often the case
that there is more than one correct way of graphing the data. Just give one for each variable.
5. Give the five-number summary and draw the box-and-whisker plot for the number of days
students in the sample come to school in a typical week.
6. Calculate the range and interquartile range for the number of days students in the sample come to
school in a typical week.
7. Calculate the mean and standard deviation for the time it takes for students in the sample to
typically get to school.
8. Construct a cross-tabulation of gender assigned at birth and the typical means of getting to
school.
9. Construct a chart that gives the mean amount of time it takes to get to school for the different way
of getting to school.

10. Construct a cumulative frequency distribution (ogive) for the amount of time it typically takes
students in the sample to get to school.
