A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10

Content Standard

Demonstrates understanding of key concepts of measures of position.

Performance Standard

is able to conduct systematically a mini- research applying the different statistical methods.

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of 55-minute discussion, at least 80% of the student with 85 % proficiency level should be
able to:

a. interprets measures of position.

b. formulates statistical mini-research.
c. uses appropriate measures of position and other statistical methods in analyzing and interpreting
research data.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: The Percentile for Ungrouped Data
Reference: G10 LM
Materials: Marker or Chalk, Drawing/Pictures, worksheets, Chart, manila paper, power point /
video presentation.
Strategy: Guided Discovery Approach, Elaboration

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary activity
Good Morning class!
Before we begin, let’s pray first.
Someone lead the prayer.
Clean your area and we will start now.

Last time we have discussed about quartile and decile.

(the teacher will recall the last topic)
B. Motivation
Look at picture on the board.
What can you see?
That’s right!
We will be discussing about percentiles.
I will show you a video to introduce what is percentile.
(The teacher will present a sample video of ungrouped data)

C. Lesson Proper
What is percentile?

In the video, the percentiles determine the value for 1%, 2%…, and 99% of the data. P30 or 30th
percentile of the data means 30% of the data have values less than or equal to P30.
The 1st decile is the 10th percentile (P10). It means 10% of the data is less than or equal to the value of
P10 or D1, and so on.
D. Post Activity
I will divide you into two groups, try to answer the problem here in the chart and discuss it with your
group, after that you will explain your answers in the class.
I will give you 20 minutes to answer and discuss it with your group.

Find the 30th percentile or P30 of the following test scores of a random sample of ten students: 35, 42,
40, 28, 15, 23, 33, 20, 18, and 28.

(after 20 minutes)

E. Generalization
What have we discussed today?

IV. Evaluation
Let’s see if you understand the percentile.
Answer the worksheet and show the step by step procedure in getting the percentile.
(the teacher will give the evaluation work sheet

The scores of Miss World candidates from seven judges were recorded as follows: 8.45, 9.20, 8.56, 9.13,
8.67, 8.85, and 9.17.
V. Assignment
For your assignment, create a data about something.
(any references)
Then show and solve the quartile decile and percentile of your data.
