Integration is a way of adding or summing up the parts to find the whole.

It is a reverse process
of differentiation, where we reduce the functions into parts. This method is used to find the
summation under a vast scale1.

Integration can be used to find many useful quantities such as areas, volumes, displacement, etc.
When we speak about integrals, it is related to usually definite integrals. The indefinite integrals
are used for antiderivatives1.

There are two major types of integrals: definite and indefinite. A definite integral has limits of
integration, which specify the interval over which the function is integrated. An indefinite
integral does not have limits of integration, and represents a family of functions whose
derivatives are the given function2.

There are many formulas and techniques for finding integrals, such as the power rule, the
substitution rule, the integration by parts, etc. You can also use tables of integrals or online
calculators to help you with integration problems2.

Here is an example of how to find an integral using the power rule:

∫x3dx=4x4+C

The power rule states that if n is any constant, then:

∫xndx=n+1xn+1+C

To apply the power rule, we increase the exponent by one and divide by the new exponent, and
add a constant of integration C
