    The atmosphere has two main gases, nitrogen and oxygen. It protects the Earth by blocking harmful rays, regulating temperature, and enabling life. The ozone layer is being depleted by CFCs and halons, increasing UV rays and skin cancer. The greenhouse effect traps heat from the sun in greenhouse gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane. Global warming describes rising surface temperatures from an excess of greenhouse gases released by human activities such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation, as well as natural causes like volcanic eruptions.
