Repair instructions continuous copper strips (35A/50A/80A)


This is a soldering instruction for soldering continuous copper strips CU35/50/80). Soldering of copper
CU125/160/200 is mentioned on page 6 to 9). Akapp-Stemmann advises to use rosin core 40/60 (40% Sn, 60& Pb)
and acid free soldering paste (for example Griffon Purine S-39).

1. Required tools to repair damaged copper strips

2. Make sure rail profile is moved away from solder-


ing place. If necessary cover rail profile with wet
cloth for protection against heat.

3. Cut away damaged copper

4. Use sandpaper to remove dirt and oxidation on both


sides

5. Use an automotive bending tool to convert the cop-
per strips

6. If special bending tool is not available, a pliers can


be used to make the s-shape in the copper strip.
Make sure the bend in the copper strip has the exact
thickness of the copper strip.

7. Result after bending copper strip

8. Apply soldering paste on both ends of copper strip

9. Make sure copper strips are perfectly aligned and


are pushed together firmly

10. Solder both copper ends together. Make sure that


the connection between both copper ends is pene-
trated well.

12. Remove superfluous soldering material

13. Use sandpaper to make all sides off copper connec-


tion smooth

14. Touch the contact side and make sure that it is
smooth to reduce wear on brushes. Don’t forget the
top and bottom side to reduce wear on rail profile

This is a soldering instruction for soldering continuous copper strips CU125/160/200). Soldering of copper
CU35/50/80 is mentioned on page 1. Akapp-Stemmann advises to use rosin core 40/60 (40% Sn, 60& Pb) and acid
free soldering paste (for example Griffon Purine S-39).

15. Required tools to repair damaged copper strips

16. Make sure rail profile is moved away from solder-


ing place. If necessary cover rail profile with wet
cloth for protection against heat.

17. Cut away damaged copper

18. Cut extra copper strip CU50 (length approximately


80 mm.)

19. Use sandpaper to remove dirt and oxidation on all


copper parts

20. Apply soldering paste on both ends of copper strip

21. Make sure the extra copper strip CU50 is placed on


the railside of the copper connection

22. Make sure all copper strips are perfectly aligned and
are pushed together firmly

23. Solder both copper ends and connection strip to-
gether. Make sure that the connection between all
copper parts is penetrated well.

24. End result after soldering copper ends

25. Remove superfluous soldering material

26. Use sandpaper to make all sides off copper connec-
tion smooth

27. Touch the contact side and make sure that it is


smooth to reduce wear on brushes. Don’t forget top,
bottom and back side to reduce wear on rail profile
