Committee: The International Criminal Police Organization. INTERPOL.

Topic: The illegal trafficking of cultural heritage pieces and artifacts on the Deep Web.

Honorable members of the chair, respected delegates and observers, cordial greetings to all
of the presents.
The delegation of the Argentine Republic addresses the delegations present here to
communicate the country’s deep concern about the illegal trafficking of cultural items on
the deep web, something that affects several of the countries at this table.
Considering the 1970 Convention on the fight against the illicit traffic of cultural property
including cultural heritage, which promotes public policies and actions that protect cultural
goods, the delegation wants to ensure that the presents are aware of the complications that
this type of trafficking brings.
As a delegation, is proposed to have stricter control over global shipping processes, in
addition to constantly monitoring new publications of the sale of these objects not only on
the deep web but also on publicly accessible pages, and a constant report of mislay objects
in museums, this monitoring by two groups for seize this elements before it comes someone
else’s possession.
The delegation will have participation and willingness to achieve the reduction of cultural
heritage losses for the delegations affected by this organized crime. We seek that our
suggestions will be considered.
Thank you.
