DAY 1-2
Presentation and In-depth Discussion
Animals are similar in some ways. All animals are living things. They need air, water, food and shelter. They grow and reproduce their own kind.
Animals differ in many ways, too. They differ in size, body part, movement and food they eat.
COMPARING ANIMALS
1. TORTOISE AND TURTLE
Tortoise and turtles look very much alike. Both tortoise and turtles have a pair of toothless jaws with sharp edges for cutting food. Tortoises eat plants. Turtles and tortoises
have hard shells for shelter and protection.
Crocodiles and alligators are large animals with bodies covered with a dry and bumpy scales. They have long powerful tails. They use these tails in swimming and defending
themselves. Their eyes, ears and nostrils are found on top if their long heads.
Alligators have broad snouts while crocodiles have pointed snouts. The fangs of crocodiles stick out on each side of the lower jaw when their mouth is closed.
5.
Bats are often mistaken for birds because they have wings and they fly. But these animals do not have feathers. As mammals, bats have fur on their bodies. Birds have
feathers covering the bodies.
6.
Both spiders and insects are invertebrates. But, spiders have certain characteristics that separate them from insects.
The body of insects is divided into three main body parts. The head, the chest in the middle part, the abdomen is found behind the chest. Most insects can fly because most of
them have wings. Insects have six legs attached to the chest.
A spider has two main body parts. Its head and chest make up one part. Its abdomen is behind. It has no wings. But it can walk and jump fast with its eight legs.
