General Bandaging Principles
 Attend to life threatening conditions prior to bandaging

 All wounds should be dresses and bandaged unless a life


threatening problem requires immediate transportation
General Bandaging Principles
 “ Tender loving care “ is a must. Be gentle as possible
when examining and bandaging patient

 Check patient’s pulses and neural function before and


after bandaging

 Control bleeding by adequately anchoring bandage,
securing the dressing over the wound, and obtaining
adequate pressure or bulk

 Use aseptic technique

 Protect airway when bandaging the head and neck

 do not encircle head to bandage under the chin, use tape to hold
dressing

 do not encircle the neck

 Consider the needs of the patient as well as the wound
when designing a bandage
Additional Guidelines:
 Tie not too tight and not too loose
 Tie using square knot
 Secure the tail or ends
 Fold outward
