Abstract:
Floods lead to a vast loss of life and property in many countries. But in
developing countries the lack of proper technology leads to more loss of life
and property due to flood. Bridges are important in modern world. Bridges
add beauty to the roads. Bridge failures are one of the most infrastructure
problems in the world. It often leads to the catastrophic consequences, loss
of life, restricted commerce. Whenever there is a disaster there is loss of
lives, damage to the public property. The objective of this project is to
monitor the flood situation lift the bridge in case of danger in the form of
buzzer sound. A smart bridge is one that senses some significant condition
of its environment or behaviour and then automatically reacts to that
condition.
The Smart Bridge project addresses the critical issue of bridge vulnerability
during floods by implementing an automatic height adjustment system. This
comprehensive report details the design, development, and testing phases of
the Smart Bridge, emphasizing the integration of sensors, microcontrollers,
and actuators to create a dynamic infrastructure capable of adapting to flood
conditions.
1. Introduction:
There are several research papers and articles available online that
discuss similar projects, which can serve as a good starting point for
literature review. Here are some of them:
1. "Design and Implementation of Automatic Bridge Height Adjustment
System Based on Arduino" by Li et al. This paper proposes a system that uses
Arduino, a servo motor, and an ultrasonic sensor to automatically adjust the
height of a bridge based on the water level.
2. "An Automatic Bridge Height Adjustment System Based on IoT Technology"
by Wu et al. This paper presents a bridge height adjustment system that
uses an Arduino-based IoT platform and a moisture sensor to detect the
water level and adjust the bridge height accordingly.
3. "Development of an Automatic Water Level Controller Using Arduino" by
make sure it can move up and down based on the input from the servo
motor.
2. Installthe servo motor: Install the servo motor on the bridge and connect it
to the Arduino.
3. Connect the moisture sensor: Connect the moisture sensor to the Arduino
3.1 Scope:
The Smart Bridge project encompasses the design, development, and testing of
a prototype bridge with an automatic height adjustment system. The scope
also includes the exploration of potential future enhancements and
collaborations with related disciplines.
3.2 Significance:
The core hardware components used in the Smart Bridge project include an
Arduino Uno microcontroller, ultrasonic water level sensors, servo motors for
bridge height adjustment, and optional weather sensors. Each component was
selected based on its compatibility and effectiveness in the system.
The project utilizes the Arduino programming language and associated IDE for
microcontroller programming. The choice of software tools was guided by their
ease of use and compatibility with the selected hardware.
System Architecture:
Overview:
Sensors:
The project employs ultrasonic water level sensors strategically placed along
the bridge supports. These sensors continuously monitor water levels and
provide critical data for the adaptive system.
Servo Motors:
The heart of the automatic height adjustment system is the servo motors
responsible for raising and lowering the bridge. The selection of servo motors
was based on their precision, reliability, and compatibility with the bridge
structure.
Control Logic:
Arduino Programming:
The Arduino Uno is the brain of the Smart Bridge, orchestrating the entire
system. Code snippets demonstrate how the microcontroller reads sensor
data, analyzes flood conditions, and sends commands to the servo motors.
