"Body in white" refers to the stage of automotive manufacturing where a

car's body is assembled but not yet painted or equipped with mechanical
and electrical components. The term comes from the fact that the metal
frame of the car, which is typically made of steel or aluminum, is visible
as a white or gray color.

During the body in white stage, the car's body panels are welded or
otherwise fastened together to form the basic shape of the vehicle. This
includes the roof, doors, hood, trunk, and other exterior panels. The body
in white is then subjected to various tests to ensure its strength and
safety, such as crash testing and torsional rigidity testing.

Once the body in white has been approved, it is sent to the paint shop
where it is coated with a layer of primer before receiving a final paint
finish. After painting, the body is transported to the assembly line where it
