Squamous Epithelial Tissue

Squamous epithelial tissue is located on the surface of the skin on the body, this tissue
serves as a protective barrier for our body which protects us from germs and bacteria from
entering our body.

This tissue is categorized into two types 1. Simple squamous epithelial

2. Stratified squamous epithelial

Simple Squamous Epithelium, this tissue is a single-layered delicate tissue which

lines blood vessels and body cavities. It also regulates the passage of blood into the
underlying tissue. This tissue also helps in secretion in the form of sweating. It also
helps in diffusion of gases like alveoli of lungs, lining of mouth and esophagus and its
selectively permeable membrane helps in transfer of gases through the skin of the
body.

Stratified squamous epithelial, this tissue is found mostly in the outer covering of the
skin and lining parts of the body. Cells are tightly joined together leaving very little
intermolecular space and are arranged in many layers to prevent cuts on the skin. It is
also highly resistant to mechanical injury and is waterproof.
