Summer Bridge Program Intern Learning Outcomes

The purpose if this internship is to support WCU Summer Bridge Programs by working with
undergraduate leaders, staff, and faculty of the Academic Success Program (ASP) and
Catamount Gap to guide and support students as they prepare for and transition into their first
college experience. Specifically: assist in the supervision of Peer Academic Leaders (PALs),
oversee study hall, address individual student concerns and assisting with administrative
planning of summer events. Weekly staff meetings and conversations with supervisor will occur
as needed.

- Increase interpersonal competence through the development of meaningful relationships.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, including people different from self.
- Build strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.
- Encourage and facilitate the civic engagement of others.
- Engage in behaviors and contribute to environments that promote health and reduce risk.
- Understand inner workings of running a Summer Bridge Program.

Professional Competencies:
-Organizational and Human Resource - Intern will supervise, review time sheets, and help
conduct interviews for potential PALS.
-Assessment, Evaluation, and Research - Intern will create a two (2) Qualtrics Surveys at the
beginning and end of the Summer Bridge Program to assess & evaluate PAL performances and
the program.
-Leadership - Intern will work closely with and supervise PALS in order to envision and plan
summer activities and educational goals for incoming ASP/GAP students.
-Student Learning and Development - Intern will apply Student Development and Transition
theories.
-Advising and Supporting - Intern will address, listen effectively, and manage group dynamics
and conflict with PALS while also providing direction, feedback, critiques, and guidance.
