Distance learning is to deliver the learning through the use of

technology where the students and teachers physically separated from

each other. At the time of quarantine, the only viable way is to continue

learning online distance learning. As the Philippines, "Education must

continue even in times of crisis, whether it may be a calamity, disaster,

vii

emergency, quarantine, or even war," said Leonor Briones, secretary of

the Department of Education (Department of Education 2020).

Due to this learning environment, students engagement in virtual

learning can experienced problems such as students don’t have

sufficient learning tools, lack of supporting cost, student difficult to

understand the subject matter, and low motivation and lack of

communication.

The researchers take the opportunity to know the problems of

students in the virtual learning engagement.

The researchers utilized the descriptive method in determining the

Challenges Encountered in Virtual Learning Engagement of Grade 5

Students at San Diego Elementary School. The researchers utilized the

purposive sampling technique to those Grade 5 students who have

gadgets only with a total of 50 respondents.

It was found out that most of the respondents have low income

with a percentage of 50. They encountered several problems in their

virtual learning engagement and these are access of internet were the

students experienced the websites and pages took too long to load with

the weighted mean of 3.24. Lacks of information were their teacher

explains without screen presentation with the weighted mean of 3.34 and

overload activities were the teacher will gave too many activities with the
viii

weighted mean of 3.38. Doing the assignment was they hardly finish their

assignments in virtual learning than to face-to-face classes with the

weighted mean of 3.46. Students' engagement in virtual learning is

affected in class participation were I am not interested in what teachers

taught us with the weighted of 4.12. For doing activities I can easily do

my online activities with the help of internet with the weighted mean of

3.50.

The researchers found out the real problem appeared in each

situation of the respondents. Students should engage to their teachers in

order that they cope up the lesson and have good relationship to their

instructor. Teachers should demonstrate appropriate behavior in dealing

with learners. School administrators should have an engagement and

motivation with content and activities and for the future researcher it will

serve as a guide and references if pandemic strikes again.

APPENDIX G
PROPOSED OUTPUT
GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS IN VIRTUAL LEARNING

ENGAGEMENT

I. Rationale

Researchers propose the use guidelines to the students in

Virtual learning engagement. Guidelines a standard or

principle by which to make a judgment or determine a policy

or course of action. It can support students to find a

solutions to the problem in virtual learning engagement.

This will help clarify expectations, to understand the work

task and cultivate a sense of belonging in virtual class.

II. Objectives

Virtual Learning Engagement is the relationship between

students and teachers. The goal of Virtual Learning

Engagement is to:

(1) Prevent disruptive behavior during virtual class.

(3) To prepared theirselves in virtual learning.

36

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS IN VIRTUAL LEARNING

ENGAGEMENT

 Researchers propose the use guidelines for virtual learning

engagement of the students wherein the websites and pages took

too long to load. Make sure that you have enough data if your

WIFI have no signal to improve access of the internet.

 Students experienced that there are times that teacher will give too

many activities. For that reason, make a to-do list of all the things

you need to get done today so you can plan the preparations you'll

need to make to finish the job. Set up a time during the day when

there won't be any distractions to do all of the tasks to improve

overload activities.

 Students observed that their teacher explains without screen

presentation. Therefore, Make sure to take notes throughout all

important discussions so you may study the topic you don't

understand. Request clarifications from your teacher if necessary,

or kindly let them know during class if you can't understand them

to improve lack of information.

37

 Students having problem to talk with others and to my teachers. If

you are afraid then do the inhale and exhale so that your

confidence might not be disrupted and you can focus to improve

your online classroom environment.
