corporate feature like member profile and friend list. In 2004, it was sold to United Online

center for nostalgia called Memory Lane
May 1997 Six Degrees was launched which combines popular features such as profile, friend list and
school affiliation in one service. This was founded by Andrew Weinreich and is widely
considered to be the very first networking sites. The site has million of registered user, du
to the lock of people connected to the internet, networks were limited. It would be few
years before the internet infrastructure could catch up with the concept of social network

October 2001 Ryze was launched by Adrian Scott. The site allowed users to build profiles, add friend, an
send messages and this site was a precursor to Linkedln. It was been speculated that
Friendster’s founder Jonathan Abrams was an early member of the site and was inspired
create a dating version of Ryze. The website claims to have more than 500,000 members
over 200 countries

point in 2007, hi 5 was second only to Myspace in terms of traffic

Criterion Capital Partner for less than $10 million in June 2010

similar to Facebook such as newsfeed, photo albums and groups. Googlet moves an inch
ahead of Facebook by adding a video chat room called Hangouts
