The Philippines on Sunday logged 862 more cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
—16 "fresh," or newly validated and 846 reported late—bringing the total to 18,086 ahead of Metro
Manila’s shift to a general community quarantine on Monday.
The Department of Health (DOH) also announced that total recoveries rose to 3,909 after 101
more patients recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll climbed to 957 with seven
new fatalities.
There are also 12,466 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 94 percent of which
are mild. Of the remainder, 680 are asymptomatic, while 55 are severe and 18 are in critical condition.
Among the fresh cases, six were from Metro Manila, while the remaining 10 were spread out
across the country.
Among the late cases, 238 came from Metro Manila, 235 were repatriates, 81 were from
Region VII, and the 292 other patients came from various areas nationwide. “Today's fresh cases are
based on the daily accomplishment reports submitted by only 15 out of 42 operational laboratories,”
the DOH said.
“Late cases reported from May 28 to 31 are based on the validation of complete line lists from
27 operational laboratories and the partial line list from one laboratory. No more late cases will be
reported until the remaining 14 operational labs submit their line lists,” it added.
As of May 30, the Philippines has 37 certified polymerase chain reaction facilities and 11
GeneXpert laboratories that have tested a total of 318,356 individuals.
The DOH earlier explained that the public should expect more new COVID-19 cases in the
following days as the country ramps up its testing and case validation capacity.
Meanwhile, quarantine restrictions over Metro Manila, Davao City, Regions II, III, IV-A, and
the provinces of Pangasinan and Albay will be loosened starting June 1.

world Orpheus asked Eurydice a question but the later did not reply. So, Orpheus looked
back at Eurydice to make sure she was still following him but it caused Eurydice to

characterization of the characters and the writer’s purpose.

Daedalus managed to get out of the Labyrinth-after all, he had built it and knew his way
around. Daedalus decided that he and his son Icarus had to leave Crete and get away from Minos,
before he brought them harm.
To escape, Daedalus built wings for himself and Icarus, fashioned with feathers held together
with wax. Daedalus tried the wings on himself first and was satisfied that his plan would work.
Before taking off from the island, Daedalus warned his son to follow closely behind him.
He sternly cautioned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, as it would melt his wings, and not too
close to the sea, as it would dampen them and make it hard to fly.
They successfully flew from Crete, but Icarus grew exhilarated by the thrill of flying and
began getting careless. Forgetting his father’s stern advice, Icarus flew too close to the sun god
Helios, who was pulling the sun behind his chariot high in the sky.
The wax holding together his wings softened and melted from the heat and, try as he might,
Icarus could not prevent the feathers from falling off his body. Furiously, he flapped his arms, but
soon no feathers at all were left and he fell to his death, drowning in the sea, as his helpless father
in anguish watched his son perish.
