Youth employment
Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran

Iran’s position on the topic of youth employment has always been hazy
and sort of unclear since it has never been a topic of spotlight, however
the issue first emerged when in September, 29th of 2021, the rates of
unemployment have skyrocketed up to 9.6% of the overall population
of 84 million. This percentage amounts to an approximation of 8 million
people. Of course, the aftermath of this didn’t only affect the men and
women of the working industry, it also affected the working youths
quite marginally. Prior to the decrease of the employment rates, teens
of ages of 15 and older occupied a striking 41.1% of all the active
positions in many jobs (whereas in 2016 it was hardly anything as the
unemployment rates was actually 25.9%!). From this we can
understand that they were indeed an active members of society, but
when the dilemma had fallen, the youths employment rates took a
severe hit where the it decreased all the way to 0.7% in 2021 compared
to the summer of 2020.
Unfortunately, actions have consequences, for the issue affected the
nation negatively, so in Iran as any other country, the low rates of
youth employment has caused problems, one in particular is how
poverty and inequality have spread around, as not all parents have well
paying jobs and may struggle, in most cases the kids can help but when
there’s not much opportunities the family will grow to be in need, and
feel less than others. Another one is the creativity and innovations
reduction as the lack of opportunities may hinder their imagination and
productivity. However, these affects are on the lighter side; serious
issues where the nation might turn around on their government due to
the economic crisis, and start rioting with large numbers, on the
streets. Not to mention, the worst one where the highly educated
Iranians would tend to look and seek employment opportunities
abroad, which results in in valuable humans to leave, which in turn
deprives the country of highly intelligent people. On the other hand, it
might not end up with a simple “leave the country” scenario, some
might not have the luxury to leave, and being unemployed may lead
them to think theyre simply a waste of life and a burden on society,
which unfortunately may lead for individuals to commit suicide. Which
on the larger scale would lead to the ruination of a society
Well, Iran didn’t simply take the issue with a grain of salt and moved on
without doing anything, quite the opposite actually. Many programs
relating the problem emerged in order to ease up all over the years,
two are “Entrepreneurial Youth Financing programs” and “Small and
Medium Enterprises program”. These programs provides financial
funding and technical support to young people who wish to establish or
expand their own projects and boost their careers. since September
2021, the rates of youth employment has increased from 0.7% all the
way up to 24%, which is not as it used to be before, but nevertheless a
very noticeable development thanks to the encouragement of the
Iranian leadership, and till now they are working to even a greater
improvement.
The success of such projects have greatly inspired the neighboring
countries to approach the problem delicately and gradually, with the
ideas of establishing similar programs and the such.
Irans polices and justification regarding this topic and its position with
the neighboring countries (LAS) includes some factors such as regional
cooperation , addressing root causes, political stability.
Iran aims to accomplish economic development with the united nations
countries in the committee and increasing its currency value (Toman).
The country will continue on dragging focus and support toward this
issue, “The entrepreneurial spirit of our youth is a driving force for
economic growth and innovation. We will continue to support and
empower young entrepreneurs to create jobs and drive our economy
forward." - Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs
