Present the results of the Bishop and Swedish method analyses for the three different
groundwater conditions and explain what is happening.
As per analysis stability factor decreases in case of full reservoir condition and filter failure
condition.
2. Present the results of the sensitivity analysis (the tables of F and associated graph). Which
parameter affects F most? Comment on any similarities or differences. List a few ways in
which parameter uncertainty could be reduced. Explain why engineers use ‘conservative’
design parameter values. Do think that the values chosen for this analysis (i.e. c’ = 0 kPa, φ’ =
30°, and γ = 19 kN/m3 ) were the right ones, or would you have chosen other values? Briefly
discuss why/why not.

1. Sensitivity analysis of Material Property:
Soil parameter C and Phi is parameter which is highly sensitive for stability factor of dam
embankment slope so its analysis has been done by varying one parameter and keeping one
parameter same.
a. Sensitivity Analysis of C
Sensitivity Analysis of C (phi=30 , Gamma =19)
Soil Nail: Dam stability can be improved by soil nail, by resistance of soil nail between sliding layers
shear strength of soil improves hence, its stability improves.
For example, if we do soil nailing of each slice by 115 KN its FOS improves from 1.05 to 1.46.
By adding additive Fibre reinforcement: By adding additive and fibre reinfrocment Cv can be enhanced so
its stability can be improved by this for the example if Cv enhanced from 10 to 25 KPa its FOS
improves from 1.22 to 1.47.
Grass root will enhance shear strength of sliding plane if it enough deep. For shallow depth this will
provide enough shear strength but for deeper slices sufficient deep roots plants shall be provided
to improve the stability of dam.
