‭1. A clear summary of the business task‬
‭●‬ T
‭ he high school I am working at was having issues with students getting to class‬
‭on time. Students stayed in the hallway way past when the bell rang for class, to‬
‭the point that many students were showing up 10, 30, even 40 minutes late to‬
‭class. Not only was this negatively impacting their education, it was impacting‬
‭teachers ability to teach as they would have to restart or restate content multiple‬
‭times a class period. The task was using hall sweeps to make students less likely‬
‭to walk the halls during class. The hall sweeps gathered students wandering the‬
‭halls into a room, marked them down, and gave them all passes to go to class that‬
‭expired if they didn’t make it in time‬

‭2. A description of all data sources used‬

‭●‬ I‭ created a spreadsheet to track which students were getting caught in the hall‬
‭sweeps. The spreadsheet also had functions to total up the number of sweeps to‬
‭be used for data collection.‬

‭3. Documentation of any cleaning or manipulation of data‬

‭●‬ F ‭ ormatted the document by freezing the header row, using alternating color,‬
‭including students names alphabetized in different sheets based on grade level,‬
‭dropdowns to count how often each student was swept per day.‬
‭●‬ ‭Created sum functions to collect total hall sweeps in a week per student, per‬
‭grade level, and overall‬
‭●‬ ‭Created an average of the total sweeps by grade level to take in account the‬
‭differing sizes of each grade level‬
‭4. A summary of your analysis‬

‭ he goal of the analysis was to see if hall sweeps would reduce how often students‬
T
‭roamed the halls, as well as pinpointing repeat offenders to call home or have parent‬
‭teacher conferences on how to improve their behavior to best help them get the‬
‭education they deserve. We found that even in just one week, the sweeps were working.‬
‭Students were roaming the halls much less which meant they were in their classrooms‬
‭and learning. While the sophomore class were the biggest offenders of this, when we‬
‭averaged out they were not too far ahead of the other grade levels.‬
‭5. Supporting visualizations and key findings‬
‭ . Your top high-level content recommendations based on your‬

‭analysis‬

‭Based on what I found, I have some recommendations for Hall sweeps in the future‬
‭●‬ ‭Standardize when to start hall sweeps‬
‭○‬ ‭While our data is fine, having a standard time of when teachers are to close‬
‭their doors would make it more accurate. Some days as soon as the bell‬
‭rang there would be a countdown to do so, and on other days this‬
‭countdown would not happen until about 4 minutes into class.‬
‭●‬ ‭Immediate phone calls home for repeat offenders‬
‭○‬ ‭As of now, if students are caught in a hall sweep and do not go back to‬
‭class after getting their passes, they go back to the room and spend the rest‬
‭of the class period there. While this is beneficial to teachers trying to keep‬
‭class running, this does not benefit students. Many would rather not be in‬
‭class and this current solution provides that to them. By having an‬
‭immediate phone call, this gives a steeper consequence to students which‬
‭gives them more incentive to avoid this. This also informs parents of‬
‭student behavior which is always a bonus as it helps build community‬
‭between the school and parents.‬
