Title: "Persuasive Power: Crafting Compelling Multimedia Advertisements"

Overview:

In this project-based learning (PBL) experience, Grade 8 students will learn about persuasive
communication by creating multimedia advertisements. Through this process, students will not only
enhance their English language skills but also develop their ability to research, analyze information, and
effectively persuade an audience.

Duration: 4-6 weeks

Objectives:

1. Develop proficiency in composing persuasive speeches.


2. Utilize multimedia tools to create compelling advertisements.
3. Identify and incorporate properly acknowledged information sources.
4. Demonstrate grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis.
5. Apply appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior in delivering a persuasive speech.

Driving question:

How can we effectively persuade an audience through multimedia advertisements?

Students will take on the role of marketing consultants tasked with promoting a product, service, or
idea through persuasive speech delivered via multimedia advertisements.

Project Tasks:

Research Phase:

a) Identify a product, service, or idea to promote.


b) Conduct research to gather information and statistics supporting the chosen topic.
c) Compile a list of credible sources for reference.

Speech Composition:

a) Craft a persuasive speech script utilizing grammatical signals for opinion-making and persuasion.
b) Incorporate persuasive language techniques such as rhetorical questions, emotive language, and
inclusive pronouns.
c) Ensure the speech includes proper emphasis on key points.

Multimedia Advertisement Creation:

a) Select appropriate multimedia tools (e.g., video editing software, graphic design tools).
b) Develop visuals and graphics that complement the persuasive message of the speech.
c) Incorporate audio elements (e.g., background music, sound effects) to enhance the
advertisement.
d) Ensure proper citation of information sources within the advertisement.

Rehearsal and Delivery:

a. Practice delivering the persuasive speech with appropriate prosodic features, stance, and
behavior.
b. Solicit feedback from peers and teachers to refine delivery and content.
c. Record the final presentation for evaluation.

Reflection:

a) Reflect on the process of creating the persuasive advertisement.
