WHAT IS SPLASH ON THE EYE?
- a splash on the eye occurs when a toxic substance comes into contact with the delicate eye
tissues.
- these substances can include chemicals, cleaning agents,acids,alkalis,or other poisonous
liquids.

CAUSES:
- accidental splashes during handling of toxic substances.
- Lack of proper protective equipment , such as goggles.
- mishandling or incorrect storage of chemicals.
- poorly labeled containers.

EFFECTS ON THE EYE:


When a poisonous substances splashes into the eye, it can cause immediate and severe
reaction. The eyes delicate structures can be damaged, resulting in symptoms such as:
- intense burning and stinging sensation
- redness and inflammation
- excessive tearing
- blurred vision
- sensitivity to light
- eye pain and discomfort

POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES:
If not treated promptly and appropriately, a splash of poisonous substances on the eye can
lead to:
- permanent vision loss
- secondary infection
- conjunctivitis ( pink eye )
- chemical burns on the eye surface

PREVENTION AND SAFETY MEASURES


To prevent accidents involving splash on the eye of poisonous substances, the following
safety measures should be observed:
- wear appropriately protective eyewear when handling chemicals
- store poisonous substances in well-labeled containers, out of reach of children
- use caution when transfering or working with hazardous materials
- read and follow safety instructions and guidelines on chemical labels
- have an eyewash station readily available in workplaces where chemicals are used

FIRST AID AND TREATMENT


Immediate action is crucial if a splash on the eye poison occur. Follow these steps:
- rinse the eye immediately with clean water water for at least 15 to 20 minutes
- seek medical attention promptly, even if symptoms seem mild.
- avoid rubbing the eye, as this can exacerbate the damage
- continue flushing the eye until medical help arrives
