Possible argument of Propositions/ and their answers

● Low self esteem- It empowers women and tends to give inspiration to


those watching. Also to the contestant to discover what they are capable of
more than what they imagined.

● Develop eating disorder- Size, weight, age or status is not the basis of
these pageants, everyone is welcome, inclusivity is the priority.

● Sets unrealistic standards for body- On recently held Miss universe, a


plus-size contestant captured the hearts of many, which pinpoint that thin
waistline is not the standard.

● Objectification in women and sexist allegations- It’s not only the beauty that
matters, it is what is inside. Pageantry is not a measurement of beauty, but
the advocacy, wits, and how women can participate and have a say on
things.

Counter arguments

1. Pageantry is political, it can be an avenue to tackle contemporary issues


that we face. Pageantry is our ally in combating these blockages on our
system. A tool to speak up, give voice and empower youth.
2. Pageantry is part of Filipino culture, it captures the heart and mind of
millions of proud Filipinos cheering for our representative. Pageant unifies
us Filipinos, in a sense that we share a common goal that is to support our
MU. Traced way back to colonial times, Santa cruzan can be considered
as a form of pageantry.
3. Pageant promotes inclusivity, challenges societal norms and stereotypes.
Promotes a positive view of beauty, that it can be found on the eye of the
beholder. Belongingness, that everyone has a place in this field and that
everyone can be a part of it.
