The Impacts of War Between Ukraine and Russia

Okay, so did you know about war? War is an action both physical and and non-physics
that occurs between humans, ethnic groups, races, countries, nations, or groups with the
aim of dominating a contested territory. The cause of the war because of a conflict that
occurred between the two nations or more. The conflict is in the form of natural resource
wealth, territory, ideology, and the interests of each nation. Based above statement, that
happened for Ukraine and Russia in 2022. Actually, this not the first time war of them. In
2014, anti-government masses managed to get rid of the pro-Russian former president of
Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych and joined the European Union (EU) and NATO, made President
Putin angry and attacked Ukraine. Just like before, in early 2022 Russia also attacked
Ukraine for its main reason, namely NATO. According to Russia, NATO is dangerous because
it threatens to take Russian territory, especially Crimea which has wealth, food, oil and gas
centers even during the Cold War NATO targeted the teritory. Because Ukraine joined
NATO, that's what made Russia attack Ukraine and carry out attacks on Ukrainian troops
until now and help the separatists who support Russia will fight against the Ukrainian
government, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Because of this war, the whole world is getting affected, especially in the economic field.
The first impact is the energy crisis. Due to the campaign from the United States to ban
imports of Russian oil and several European countries that participated in the campaign, oil
and gas prices jumped dramatically considering Russia is the second largest oil producer in
the world after Saudi Arabia, causing the global economy to be badly shaken by the lack of
supplies of oil, gas. , and other fossil materials. The Russia-Ukraine tensions that drag on
Western countries could eliminate around 3 million bpd of Russian oil exports to global
markets. Automatically the world oil market is short of 3 million barrels per day as a result
of this conflict. (Hikam, 2022). For Indonesia, the increase in energy commodity prices has
resulted in the inability of the state budget to meet energy needs, which has resulted in
energy scarcity. This scarcity cause the impact of the economic crisis and hampere several
infrastructure developments for Indonesia and of course also for the world.

The second impact is food threat. Russia and Ukraine are the world's food granaries,
accounting for 30 percent of global wheat exports (Kompas.com, 2022). But because of the
war, many countries including Indonesia experiencing food shortages which of course have
an impact on the whole of life in this world. Wheat, corn, rice, cereals, and other basic
commodities increased in price and decreased in capacity. Indonesia needs food ingredients
from Russia and Ukraine to meet the needs of the population for production and
consumption that lacks food. For several other countries that cannot afford it, the scarcity of
food causes many of the population to be malnourished to the point of causing death due to
the increase in this food.
The third impact is inflation. Due to the increase in basic commodities, energy
commodities and so on, inflation around the world increased sharply. Poor country, little
food, rising prices, declining economy causing stagflation, until competition for access to
energy increases which causes world security and peace to be slightly damaged. Stagflaton
is a condition when the rate of economic growth slows down, the unemployment rate and
inflation increase simultaneously, that's what happened now. What's worse, the value of
each country's currency increased either erratically or drastically which caused it to borrow
money from other countries for the purpose of reducing inflation.

The last but not at least, global peace and security crisis. Because of the war, it disrupted
world peace. The reason is that this was triggered by Russia's threat to Ukraine regarding
Ukraine's entry into NATO. Many countries demanded that Russia stop the invasion of
Ukraine, but Russia ignored this and continued to invade Ukraine if Ukraine left NATO. If this
continues, it will trigger the occurrence of World War 3. That’s creepy and unbelieveable if
WW3 happens.

Such is the impact of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The impact is really big and
influential for the whole world that causes losses. As a writer here, I hope that the ongoing
wars will stop and peace will prevail. The world needs peace and tranquility between
Ukraine and Russia so that nothing like this will happen again in the future.
