Essay:
The Russo-Ukrainian war is an ongoing and lengthy conflict that began in February 2014.
According to the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights (UNHCR), the war has so
far killed at least 4,183 people and more than 5014 have been injured. The real number is likely to
be much higher. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is causing damage to the country’s infrastructure at
a cost of $4.5bn (£3.6bn) a week as bombs tear through thousands of buildings and public utilities,
and miles of road. The cause behind Russo-Ukrainian war is that Ukraine desire to take
membership of North Atlantic Territory Organization (NATO), which is an Military Alliance, And
European Union (EU). In that way conflict between Russia and Ukraine leads to global economic
crises like fuel , food, disruptions to trade and weaker economic growth.
As, Ukraine wants to be the member of NATO alliance and EU. Russians have concerns that
eastern Europe, which also includes Ukraine, must not be militarized. But since NATO up to cold
war started expanding towards east Europe. So that creates a middle concern and security threat to
the Russians. Russia also wants the end of drill of NATO military along with Russian boundary.
Because they have fear of security threats from NATO Military Alliance And European Union.
Resultantly, the membership of Ukraine with NATO is the one of the main causes of Russo-
Ukrainian conflict.
By Invasion Russia cut off Ukraine from the world by which the world food supply is under threat.
Ukraine produces about 10 percent of global wheat exports. The World Food Program buys half
of its wheat from this country. Ukraine also contributes to global supply of barley maize and
sunflower oil are also the basic needs of life. But, Russia take control over the ports of Ukraine
and has trapped 20 million tons of food to be export. So, Russo-Ukrainian conflict contributes to
the major part of world starvation.
Along-with, food crisis Russo-Ukrainian war also affects the prices of oil in the world. When oil
prices go up, than cost of means of transportation either sea, land or air transportation also gone
up rapidly. When transportation cost increases that also increases the overall cost of raw material.
Russia accounts for about 10 percent of global petroleum production. Russian invasion not only
disrupt crude oil supplies globally, but also lead to sanctions by the US and Europe. Wherefore,
the tensions between Russia, the world’s second largest oil producer, and Ukraine is responsible
for world oil crisis.
The war in Ukraine is causing worldwide disruptions to trade affecting both consumers and auto
makers of energy and food globally. Disruptions in world trade and investment will curb growth
in developing countries and add to price pressures. A new World Bank report, The Impact of the
War in Ukraine on Global Trade and Investment, shows that world trade will drop by one percent,
lowering global GDP by just under one percent. Manufacturing exporters such as Vietnam,
Thailand, and Mexico see a sharp decline. The war comes at a difficult moment for the world
economy affecting the trade of many exporting and importing countries.

The war has a negative impact on world economic growth. Many international financial bodies
argue that the war will cause a significant slowdown in the global economy. The International
Monetary Fund (IMF) projects global growth to come at 3.6% in both 2022 and 2023, which are
0.8 and 0.2 percentage point lower, respectively, than it previously forecast made in January. The
economic effects of the war are spreading far and wide, like seismic waves that emanate from the
epicenter of an earthquake, mainly through commodity markets, trade, and financial linkages.
Russo-Ukrainian conflict is between two important states of the world, which account for the
larger part of world’s economy. The want of Getting membership by Ukraine in NATO and EU
are the root cause of Russo-Ukrainian war. And this war affects the world economy regards fuel
and food economy badly. The peaceful and quiet ending in the war will protect the larger part of
the world population from being starvation. Instead of fighting they should to resolve the matter
by conversation. which will not be only beneficial for them but also for the other nations of the
world.
