Introduction
This document outlines the installation of an M600/M800 into a Nissan R34 GTR N1. The Adaptor
loom used was a piggyback “T” loom where no original vehicle loom wire needs to be cut and the
installation is entirely reversible.

It must be noted that the R34 GTR MAP sensor does not connect to the factory ECU in any way.
The Manifold pressure signal is purely for the centre dash digital display/TV. Upon customer request
the MAP sensor signal wire was spliced into the MoTeC M600 for easy of tuning (MAP based load
and efficiency points).

The GTR was a February 2002 build N1 that is the limited edition model. The only apparent change
to the vehicle were a HKS piggy back ECU with a “T” type adaptor loom, 100+mm titanium exhaust
and possibly a cam shaft change but this could not be confirmed. The car also had a fuel pump
that would run all the time when the ignition key was in the “on” position this could have been a left
over from its previous life as a drag car in Japan, it could not be confirmed if the pump was a
standard unit or not. One other addition was a HKS boost controller that was hooked into the
ignition power and would cut some of the ignition when boost reached the preset level, which was
adjustable from inside the cabin.

Some external sensor connections may be added upon customer request. Lengths for the adaptor
loom may be specified by the customer.

Sensor Calibration
The sensors that needed to be calibrated were the MAP sensor air temperature and coolant
temperature. The MAP sensor on the R34 GTR is not used by the engine ECU but only for the centre
console display. For MAP base tuning this sensor can be spliced into in the same manner as any
other piggyback installation. The R34 MAP sensor is a 12-volt supply, 0-5 volt output sensor.

The air and water temperature sensors on an R34 GTR are actually the same therefore the same
calibration applies. It must be noted that the air and water sensor calibrations below are for
sensors piggy-backed into AV inputs on an M800/M600. Resistive circuit type sensors (temperature
sensors usually) cannot be spliced into AT inputs due to the internal pull-up resistor in the
M800/M600, splicing into an AV eliminates this problem although a custom calibration has to be
made with the sensor attached to the complete vehicle loom.

The MAP sensor is a 4 bar absolute sensor so it is well suited to higher than stock boost levels. One
thing that should be noted is the point at which the MAP sensor takes its reading is in a small
plenum that joins all the ports together on the engine side of the throttle butter-fly. Due to the
relatively small volume of the second plenum the MAP sensor signal is rather noisy and tuning can
be difficult, the engine will not stay nicely on a particular load site. The addition of a restrictor may
make things better. The vehicle tested also had a number of vacuum lines connected to an
aftermarket boost-controller; this may have contributed to the problem. It has also been found
that due to butterfly movement at low openings, the TPS signal can be noisy as well.
