Introduction
This document outlines the installation of an M400 ECU into a 2003 Ford ST170 Focus. This car was
prepared to run in the GT Production class, where the original loom must remain as it came from
the factory, although it can be modified within 100mm of the ECU connector. The ECU wiring
installation was in a piggy-back (“T” loom) mode due to the body control functions of the factory
ECU. It is also recommended that a similar setup is used on a road car.

The diagram above shows the connection instructions for adding the M400 “T” loom into the
modified factory loom, the external lambda is not shown in this view. The “T” parts of the M400
loom (M6/F6 and M8/F8) contain all the spliced connections and the other connector (M12) is for
the cut wires (injectors, ignition, cam control etc). The installation is reversible so that the M400 can
be installed in another car at a later stage without affecting the first.
Sensor Calibration
The sensors that needed to be calibrated were the air temperature and coolant temperature. It
must be noted that the air and water sensor calibrations below are for sensors piggy-backed into
AV inputs on an M800. Resistive circuit type sensors (temperature sensors usually) cannot be spliced
into AT inputs due to the internal pull-up resistor in the M800, splicing into an AV eliminates this
problem although a custom calibration has to be made with the sensor attached to the complete
vehicle loom.

* Note: Development vehicle had a broken manifold actuator so its effect on power was not able
to be tested. It was reported that the factory ECU swapped from long to short runners at 6000rpm.
