Engine cut-off device after overspeed phenomenon
(New Harness)
Corresponds to modification 0720015
Revision 0 2020-11-30
Summary:
The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to install an engine cut-off device to prevent the "Blade Shedding"
phenomenon if overspeed occurs on ARRIEL 2D engines.
Compliance:
SB AS350 76.00.28
CAUTION
1.A. EFFECTIVITY
Helicopters POST MOD TU210 or POST MOD 074830 and PRE MOD 0720015.
NOTE
Compliance with this Service Bulletin is not compatible with POST MOD 074831 helicopters.
CAUTION
Not applicable.

1.C. REASON
The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to install an engine cut-off device for occurrences of overspeed on
ARRIEL 2D engines.
During an engine-MGB link rupture (accident situation), the engine suddenly accelerates until reaching the
"Blade Shedding" (separation of free turbine blades due to centrifugal effect).
The "Blade Shedding" is designed to prevent the bursting of the turbine disc, which would cause the
separation of a heavy mass fragment at very high energy. However, the "Blade Shedding" can also cause
mechanical and thermal damages to the engine and the airframe.
The solution consists in using the capacity of the FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) to supply the
"OFF" solenoid valve bobbin of the ARRIEL 2D engine.
Compared to the initial modification 074831, the introduction of this new device has been simplified for
operators through the integration of a shunt harness.
1.D. DESCRIPTION
Not applicable.
Airbus Helicopters recommends compliance with paragraph 3. of this Service Bulletin during one of the next
maintenance inspections as per operational constraints.
The build-up of stocks for compliance with this Service Bulletin is left to the operator's initiative.
