IV. PROCEDURES
A. Review the Past Lesson
What was our previous lesson all about?
What is Geometry means?
What are undefined terms in geometry?
What do you mean by Point, Line and Plane?
B. Presentation
Our next topic for today is all about Other Basic Geometry Terms on Points, Line and
Plane. At the end of the discussion, the student should be able to;

1. formulate the definition of parallel lines, intersecting lines, concurrent lines, skew
lines, segment, ray and congruent segments;
2. perform the set operations on segments and rays.

C. Discussion
Point
-it has no dimensions
-represent a point with a dot
-a point is usually named with a capital letter.
-in the coordinate plane, a point is named by an ordered pair, (x,y).

Collinear Points

- three or more points are collinear if they belong to the same line.

In the example below, the points A, B and C are collinear:

But, in the example below, the points A, B and C are non-collinear:

Line

A Line is an infinite set of compact collinear points, and it has one dimension.

Geometrically, we take two different points on this line so that both sides are not bound by
these two points.

In the above figure, the line is denoted by the symbol: AB or BA
Ray

The Ray is part of the line, with one endpoint, and the other side is unfinished, so it starts
at one point and goes on forever in some direction. And it has one dimension.

Geometrically, we take two different points so that the first point is the endpoint and the
second point is on the infinite side.

In the above figure, the ray is denoted by the symbol: AB

Line Segment
The line segment is a part of the Line so that it have two endpoints, that is, its length is finite.
And it has one dimension.

Geometrically, we take two different points so that the first point is on the first endpoint and
the second point is on the second endpoint.

In the above figure, the line segment is denoted by the symbol: AB or BA

Parallel Lines
We say that two lines are parallel if they have no common point, that never intersect.

The following Lines are parallel:

In the above figure, the parallel lines denoted by the symbol: ()∥()
(AB)∥(CD) or ()∥()(CD)∥(AB)

Intersecting Lines
We say that two lines intersect if they share only one point.

The following Lines are intersect at point I:

Concurrent line
- two or more lines pass through a single point, in a plane, they are concurrent with each
other and are called concurrent lines.
-a point that is common to all those lines is called the point of concurrency.
- concurrency can also be seen in the case of triangles.
-All the intersecting lines or non-parallel lines are concurrent. But parallel lines are not
concurrent at any point on a plane.
Concurrent
Lines

Skew lines
-Skew lines are lines in space that are not in the same plane. They do not intersect and are
not parallel.
-Imagine a lane on a major highway as one line and the lane or highway passing over it as
another line. These two lines are skew lines.

In the figure above, line m contains edge AE and line n contains edge CD. Lines m and n are
skew lines since edges AE and CD are not parallel and do not intersect.

Congruent segments
-are simply line segments that are equal in length.

- congruent means equal.

- . Congruent segments do not need to be parallel to each other; they do not need to be
perpendicular, either. In fact, they can be angled in relation to each other in different ways.
The important part is that they are equal, or congruent.
D .ABSTRACTION/GENERALIZATION

Again how can you determine point, line, parallel line, concurrent line, skew line,
congruent segment, intersecting line, ,line segment and ray?

What is the different between collinear points and Non- collinear points?

Did you understand about undefined terms in geometry?
