For this portfolio, you will write a five -paragraph rough draft and final
draft about an issue related to your community that you feel strongly about.
Your job is to share your opinion

Everyone has opinions about issues that are important to them. When you
write about an issue, you share your opinion, and you may try to persuade
others to agree with you. You may also ask readers to take action on the
issue.

Recall that an opinion essay has these features:

● It clearly states the writer's opinion about a topic.

● It gives clear reasons for the opinion.
● It supports those reasons with facts and details.
● It uses linking words and phrases to connect ideas.
● It has a conclusion that asks readers to take action.

What can I write about? Anything in your community you are passionate
about- as long as you can support your opinion with reasons and FACTS!
