1. Describe (4 points

The sculpture's facial features are expertly rendered, with delicate lines that suggest
the contours of the face while allowing the natural beauty of the wood to shine
through. The high forehead and almond-shaped eyes give the figure a sense of
serenity and wisdom, while the subtly defined nose and mouth provide a sense of
balance and harmony.

2. Identify (2 points
The piece was made by a very skilled sculptor who wanted to show the beauty of
motherhood

3. Interpret (4 points
The sculpture is of a woman and her baby showing one of the many stages of life.

4. Judge (4 points
I think the statue is a simple but good show of life.

5. How do you think one's own culture affects one's opinion of the art of other
cultures? Think about what influences our taste and preferences. Could this same
argument be made for all art (music, movies, even food) from other cultures? (6
points)

While a person's culture can influence their preferences for certain foods, musical
genres, and artistic styles, it can also seal them off to other ideas because they are
only familiar with their own. Because almost everything is a product of its culture,
this can be applied to almost anything.
