Reflect (5 points)

On your assignment sheet, answer the questions about creating and delivering
slide presentations.

1. In terms of delivering a presentation, explain how a slide presentation differs from

a lecture? (1 point)

A slide presentation can be different from a lecture by a presentation having

pictures and media in it while a lecture could be just words.

2. Describe a common error that presenters make during their presentation and how
to remedy the error.

A common error is that some presenters can not speak clearly. They can redeem
this by speaking more clearly and loudly.

3. Explain what "less is more" means in relation to slide presentations?

This means packing slides with tons of information does not make it better.

4. Part of delivering an effective slide presentation is making sure you present your
material in a logical order. Before you begin to create your slides, what is one way to
make sure your material is in a logical order on your slides?

You have to double check or you could make a little planner. This could help with
making sure everything is in the right place.

5. During your presentation, why should you "listen" to your audience?

You should listen to your audience because it is best to have feedback from your
audience. You have to know if you are doing good or bad.
Analyze (10 points)

Read and then analyze the following scenario:

Amber showed up to the conference room five minutes before her presentation,
which was to begin at 2 P.M. This was the first time she had been to conference
room #9, and she assumed that it had a projector. Unfortunately, it didn’t. After
noticing this fact, she rushed to an adjacent room to borrow one. She was able to
do so, and finished setting up her equipment at 2:15. She had to borrow a laptop as
well, since the room did not have a computer.

1. Think carefully about what happened to Amber's presentation. In your estimation,

what was her first mistake?

Her first mistake was thinking that her conference room had a projector. She
needed to have a backup plan if the place didn’t have a projector.

2. The image below could be considered to be a typical conference room. Imagine

that you have to present to your corporate team in this room. What are a few things
you would have to consider when presenting in this room?

You have to consider where you are going to be presenting and think about what is
going to be in the room.

3. Now, imagine you are giving a presentation in the room shown below. What are
the main differences here as opposed to the previous room?
This rooms seems to be way more effective than the other room because there are
more desks and there is a projector. This room also seems to look more cleaner
and has the proper things to do a presentation.

4. Let's continue with Amber. Once she began, she realized that she was short on
time so she simply skipped her opening slides. Feeling a bit frazzled, Amber began
reading from slide 7. Why do you think that this would not be Amber's best strategy?

This is not the best method because people shouldn’t do last minute strategies
because they can cause panic. She should have been more prepared for this
moment. Sometimes skipping a lot of slides could make the presentation messy.

5. What we didn't mention was that after Amber's 7th slide, her 8th slide contained a
few questions for the group. Amber then asked her audience to comment on a few
questions that she had up on the screen. Amber was usually very good at getting the
audience to converse with her, but today it was difficult. What was wrong with her
strategy of audience engagement?

It was because she skipped the first slides, which could make the audience
confused on what Amber is talking about.

Synthesize (15 points)

Determine the practical steps for delivering a presentation, and apply the principles
of good communication to a slide presentation. Critique the style of two different
presentations shown on the second page of this activity.

1. Delivering a successful presentation is difficult, and often it comes down to the

details. Watch Video A, which is on the second page of this activity. List three things
you think this presenter is doing successfully.
I couldn’t find this video anywhere, but I am going to assume what the presenter
did that was good. Speaking loudly and clearly so the audience could hear. Had a
good amount of information on their slides and made sure they took their time with
it, and didn’t rush the slides and asked for feedback.

2. Watch Video B. Compare the two presenters and identify two things this presenter
could do better.

I couldn’t find video B but I will also assume what the video was like. The presenter
could have talked a bit louder, making it so the audience could hear them properly.
They could have their slides more neat, and not cram a bunch of information in 1
place.

3. Not everyone is a natural public speaker. Even the best speakers will have to
create note cards to remind themselves of information. For this assignment, create
a note card that you will have on the podium next to you. On this note card list four
things you need to remember during your presentation. For example, if you are a fast
talker, one thing on your note card will be "Slow down."

Take a moment and think about your public speaking skills, as well as what makes a
good communicator, and write down four things that you think would help you the
most.

Remembering to speak loudly to make sure that everyone could here.

Remember that they aren’t going to remember this forever, so don’t be
embarrassed.
Remember to be proper when speaking.
Don’t stutter and take deep breaths when need to.

4. Engaging your audience in meaningful activities can be the most difficult part of a
presentation. It can also, however, be the most rewarding. When you are planning for
interactivity with your audience, two factors should be taken into account, the size of
the audience and the presentation space. We have already looked at a smart room in
question 3 of the analyze portion of this exercise. Now, for this question, imagine
that you are giving a presentation on your company's customer relations philosophy
in this room. Describe an exercise that would be appropriate for this setting and
context.

I could take deep breaths when I am feeling nervous and making sure that I am
speaking slowly and clearly enough for them to hear me. I can make sure that they
were all paying attention to what I was saying and ask for some feedback.
