Apart from belief in a god or gods as its main trust, a religion is also
comprised of the following elements:

existence;
2. Framework of transcendent beliefs;
3. The presence of sacred texts or scriptures associated with divinity;
4. The expression of beliefs through rites, rituals, and sacraments among
others; and
5. Places of worship like a church, temple, mosque, synagogue, etc.

These elements are intended to help establish a strong and holy religion.
Although religious denominations may vary in their respective teachings or
dogmas, still several of these elements are present because of one common trust,
i.e., the belief in a supreme deity or group of deities, usually also referred to as
the creator of the universe and humankind, capable of intervening within human
history.

Exercises:

1. Which elements are common to most religions? Which are characteristic

only of a particular religion?
2. How important are rites and rituals to a religion?
