Introduction
The research has revealed that clauses are groups of words that contain a subject and
a verb. They may be independent, expressing a complete thought and functioning as
a standalone sentence, or dependent, relying on an independent clause to form a
complete sentence. The identification of clauses in a sentence is essential for
understanding their syntactic structure and meaning.
This research asks how different types of clauses do, including relative clauses,
adverbial clauses, and complement clauses, function within the syntactic and
semantic frameworks of English sentences, and what the implications of these
functions are for language acquisition, learning, and teaching.
