Sources of Solid Wastes
Domestic Wastes – waste that arises from
household activities of humans.

Industrial Wastes – waste that arises from

industrial activities
Agricultural Wastes – residues and poultry and
dairy wastes
Types of Solid Wastes
Biodegradable Wastes– wastes which can be broken down
into simpler and harmless substance by nature in due course
or time using biological means

Non-Biodegradable Wastes – wastes which cannot be

broken down into simpler and harmless substance by
biological means

Toxic Wastes– imposes substantial danger to human health

and environment

program, creating the necessary institutional mechanisms
and incentives, declaring certain acts prohibited and
providing penalties, appropriating funds therefore, and for
other purposes.

of 2000
● Ensure the proper segregation, collection, transport,
storage, treatment, and disposal of solid waste
● Ensure the protection of the public health and environment
● Encourage greater private sector participation in solid
waste management
