THEORY OF ARCHITECTURE – ARCH 212
Assignment # 1

Assignment Objects:

The aim of this research is to acquaint students with renowned architects and movements in modern
architecture. Students will acquire knowledge about the distinguishing features of each movement, the notable
works of modern architects, and the diverse forces and influences that have shaped their architectural
production.

Task:
Prepare a comparison between two architectural movements from the list below:

1- Palladianism vs Classical Architecture

2- Georgian Architecture vs Victorian Architecture
3- Art and Craft vs Nouveau

Research Format and Submission:

1- The work is individual work
2- In-class 10-mints PPT presentation.
3- The PPT should be about (20-30 slides) with a cover and references slides.
4- Each student needs to upload only one soft copy of the PPT in pdf format on the LMS.
5- The submission due date is March 9th, @ 23:59 pm, no late submissions will be accepted.
6- In-Class presentation with a pre-scheduled timetable that will be announced on LMS by
Monday March 19th.

Your submission should include the following

1. General definition of each movement (reasons behind it, where it has been established, etc.) 10%
2. Properties and Characteristics of each movement 10%
3. Introduction to one architect represents each movement
10%
4. Analysis of one building that represents each
movement (Sketch Analysis – Use your own sketches
for the analysis) 70%
