ABSTRACT

The digital age has provided new opportunities for

preserving cultural heritage, and websites can play a

crucial role in this process. Culture is the background of

every human communication. Cultural embedding as a feature

of texts in general is also valid in technical and

scientific texts. As translation by humans is based on

understanding, the translator needs knowledge in order to

detect cultural aspects. This is possible by putting down

implicit cultural references to certain structures

The study focused on the Preserving the Past through

Google Site: An Innovative Tool in Saving Arts, History and

Culture of Bibiclat. The researchers used the descriptive

design under the quantitative research method. The

respondents of the study are the teachers of ICT and Araling

Panlipunan in secondary schools will participate in this

study as respondents. This investigation will take place for

Barangay Bibiclat. Other problems that aren't necessarily

related to the subject will not be covered in this study.

The researchers used the weighted mean for identifying

the correlation of motivation, and satisfaction to the

students’ academic performance. The mean difference was used

to know if the treatment of synchronous virtual classroom is

effective.

As a result, the researchers found out the mean _ which

is declared as effective for the people to knowing about

their knowledge in Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija’s culture,

tools and history.

The implications drawn based on the results are the

session more engaging to the knowledge of bibiclat people in

preserving the past through google sites. Through history,

the people of Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija can learn how

past societies, systems, ideologies, governments, cultures

and technologies were built, how they operated, and how they

have changed. The rich history of the world helps us to

paint a detailed picture of where we stand today. All this

knowledge makes them more rounded people who are better

prepared to learn in all their academic subjects.

Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Introduction

Preserving history and culture is an important aspect

of maintaining the identity and heritage of a society. With

the advent of the internet, websites have become a powerful

tool for preserving cultural heritage and disseminating

information about historical sites and artifacts. Websites

can provide a platform for individuals, organizations, and

governments to showcase their cultural heritage, share

knowledge, and educate the public.

This research aims to explore the role of websites in

preserving history and culture. It will examine the various

types of websites used for cultural preservation, including

digital archives, online museums, and cultural tourism

websites. The study will also investigate the benefits and

challenges of using websites for cultural preservation,

including accessibility, accuracy, and sustainability.

The digital age has provided new opportunities for

preserving cultural heritage, and websites can play a

crucial role in this process. Digital archives, for example,

provide a platform for preserving and sharing historical

documents, photographs, and recordings. Online museums can

5
RESTITUTO B. PERIA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
showcase cultural artifacts to a global audience, while

cultural tourism websites can promote and preserve

traditional customs and practices.

While the use of websites for cultural preservation has

many advantages, it also presents challenges. The accuracy

of information, accessibility for different audiences, and

the sustainability of websites over time are all important

factors to consider. Additionally, the ethical

considerations of using digital platforms for cultural

heritage preservation, such as ownership and representation,

are also important to address.

According to the University of Wisconsin history gives

us the tools to analyze and explain problems in the past, it

positions us to see patterns that might otherwise be

invisible in the present – thus providing a crucial

perspective for understanding (and solving!) current and

future problems. For example, a course on the history of

public health might emphasize how environmental pollution

disproportionately affects less affluent communities – a

major factor in the Flint water crisis. Understanding

immigration patterns may provide crucial background for

addressing ongoing racial or cultural tensions. In many

ways, history interprets the events and causes that

contributed to our current world.

This research will contribute to the understanding of

the role of websites in preserving history and culture. It

will explore the different types of websites used for

cultural preservation, their benefits and challenges, and

the ethical considerations involved. By examining the use of

websites in cultural preservation, this study will provide

insights into how digital platforms can be used to promote

and preserve cultural heritage for future generations.

Review of Related Literature

History is one of the most important academic pursuits

of any child’s education. Here, the researchers outline the

importance of learning history and reveal study tips for

pupils. We all live in the present and we plan for the

future – but how do we understand where we’re going and what

progress looks like? To know exactly where you’re going, you

first need to understand where you have come from. For that

you need an appreciation of history.

History is one of the most respected and most valuable

academic subjects your child will learn. This guide takes a

deep dive into the importance of learning history at school,

7
RESTITUTO B. PERIA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
plus a few tips for studying it effectively. Studying the

History gives them benefits like:

1. Develop an Understanding of the World

Through history, we can learn how past societies,

systems, ideologies, governments, cultures and technologies

were built, how they operated, and how they have changed.

The rich history of the world helps us to paint a detailed

picture of where we stand today.

Developing your knowledge of history means developing

your knowledge of all these different aspects of life.

Children can learn about the pillars upon which different

civilizations were built, including cultures and people

different from their own. All this knowledge makes them more

rounded people who are better prepared to learn in all their

academic subjects.

2. Become a More Rounded Person

History is full of stories. Some are inspiring and

uplifting; others are chaotic and immoral. Tap into the

vivid realm of history, and there are many vital lessons

your child needs to learn. They will study times of

suffering and times of joy, and the lessons they learn here

can then be applied to their own life experience. History

8
RESTITUTO B. PERIA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
also encourages a deeper understanding of difference. There

are lessons, both good and bad, to be learned from the way

our ancestors have interacted with other people who have

different ways of living. In a modern world where

inclusivity is embraced no matter your background, an

understanding of how past societies have integrated is key

to humanity improving in the future.

3. Understand Identity

Nations are made up of a collection of stories and

legends. These stories shape the way we think about our

country and our standing within it. History is where we

learn about how great institutions are formed, and how

they’ve contributed to where we are today.

For many of us, looking back at incredible fellow

countrymen is a way of establishing our own identity.

Finding who we are and what mark we can make on the world is

a huge part of childhood. Allowing children to learn about

the identity of their country is one way of facilitating

that.

4. Become Inspired

Those historical stories can also serve to inspire

individuals to greatness. History remembers brilliant people

9
RESTITUTO B. PERIA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
and their heroic acts that have changed the shape of

nations. You get a huge amount of motivation from learning

about the inspirational events that make up where we are

today. It only takes one great story from the pages of

history to light up children’s imagination and spur them on

to do great things.

5. Learn from Mistakes

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to

repeat it.” George Santayana’s quote is one of academia’s

most cited and paraphrased lines, and one that explains

perfectly why everyone should study history. The past is

filled with warning signs. We must be able to reflect on the

events that built up to them, learn from mistakes made

and resist and question if we see similar patterns

emerging.

If your child studies history, they will be able to

identify when society is going down perilous routes and

contribute towards getting it back on track.

6. Develop Transferrable Skills

History is a respected academic pursuit that challenges

our intellect. Students must analyze information that may

not have one clear interpretation before offering a balanced

10
RESTITUTO B. PERIA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
conclusion. Critical thought is at the heart of every

challenging intellectual pursuit. The ability to question

and evaluate information is one that applies to workplaces

in many industries, and Nord Anglia Education strive to

provide the necessary transferrable skills to all our

students. History is one of the best subjects for

stimulating and developing this ability. (Nord Anglia, 2020)

The term ‘historical ecology’ has been used with

various meanings since the first half of the 20th century.

Studies labeled as historical ecology have been produced in

at least four academic disciplines: history, ecology,

geography and anthropology.

Although all those involved seem to agree that

historical ecology concerns the historical

interconnectedness of nature and human culture, this field

of study has no unified methodology, specialized

institutional background and common publication forums.

Knowledge of the development of historical ecology is also

limited. As a result, the current multitude of definitions

of historical ecology is accompanied by divergent opinions

as to where the origins of the field are to be sought.

History involves developing an understanding of the

past through the examination and interpretation of evidence.

Evidence may exist in the form of texts, physical remains of

historic sites, recorded data, pictures, maps, artifacts,

and so on. The historian’s job is to find evidence, analyze

its content and biases, corroborate it with further

evidence, and use that evidence to develop an interpretation

of past events that holds some significance for the present.

(William,2018)

People pursue artistic and creative expression through

a variety of outlets: formal theatrical performances,

sculptures, paintings, and buildings; as well as the less

formal arts, music and food festivals, celebrations and

informal cultural gatherings, pickup bands, and crafts

groups. Together, these formal and informal, tangible and

intangible, professional and amateur artistic and cultural

activities constitute a community’s cultural assets. These

activities – which encompass a diverse set of locations,

spaces, levels of professionalism and participation,

products, events, consumers, creators, and critics – are

essential to a community’s well-being, economic and cultural

vitality, sense of identity, and heritage. (Mimar, 2013)

RESTITUTO B. PERIA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
Studying history helps us understand how events in the

past made things the way they are today. With lessons from

the past, we not only learn about ourselves and how we came

to be, but also develop the ability to avoid mistakes and

create better paths for our societies.

Events in the past have displaced families and groups,

changing the makeup of regions and often causing tensions.

Such events have also created government systems that have

lasted generations beyond when they started. And all of it

affects each person alive today. (Schana, 2020)

Take the Great Depression, for example—one of the most

difficult but impactful periods in American history. The

economic crisis put almost 15 million people out of work and

sent countless families into homelessness, stealing their

sense of security. Many of those people would feel insecure

for the rest of their lives.

The government had to learn how to help. This effort

gave rise to Social Security, federal emergency relief

programs, and funding for unemployment efforts. These

changes continue to make life more secure for millions of

Americans.

13
RESTITUTO B. PERIA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
Society today comes from hundreds and thousands of

actions like these. The more you learn about how these

things happened, the better you understand real life.

History isn’t a study of others. The people you learn

about may have lived decades or even centuries ago, but

their actions directly affect how we live our lives today.

Events that seem like dates on a page have been turning

points in the story of our societies.

“Historical knowledge is no more and no less than

carefully and critically constructed collective memory.” –

(William H, 2017)

Simply said, cultural preservation refers to the act of

upholding historic cultures, whether they come from powerful

states or remote native tribes. Researching and learning

languages, recovering historical artefacts’ that are

important to the culture or history, and promoting the usage

of rituals or languages that are relevant to the group can

all help. “Although it seems like the most obvious thing to

do, this doesn’t happen enough due to the lack of awareness

causing not only culture but also traditions and languages

to eventually cease to exist.”

e. Preserving cultural heritage such as sites,

buildings, shrines, landmarks and even monuments of

historical and cultural significance. It reflects on the

heritage which shapes one's belief, aspirations and values

keeping the integrity of people. Another importance of

preserving one's heritage and culture is the knowledge of it

being passed down from one generation to the next. The value

of this is extremely important for the minority groups but

the bigger nations as well. If people continue to let

heritage and culture die out, the future generations become

less dynamic. We should instead learn from these

perspectives and knowledge accumulated over generations -

who knows, they might help us solve our current problems.

Every country has its own culture and national identity that

sets it apart from other societies. It can be defined as the

language, beliefs, values, and norms that combine to make up

the way of life in any society. Every culture has their

unique way of viewing the world, solving problems and

different takes on religion. Culture also identifies who a

person is or where they come from. That alone is worth

preserving - don’t you think? Safeguarding all the various

cultures from around the world will help to protect the

native viewpoints. If we don’t stop to consider the

importance of cultural preservation, all these age-old

traditions and heritage will start to disappear and we will

lose our identities (Buddyzmalaysia, 2020)

Theoretical Framework

This study is supported by the Theory of Cultural

Materialism, which is the study of culture by studying its

artifacts, its product (its materials), and how it changed

the environment (or landscape) it lived in. This theory is

16
RESTITUTO B. PERIA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
inspired by Marxist thought that says that cultural values

are expressed through economic behavior, communities, and

practices.

This theory has 2 main part Marxism and Cultural

Materialism. Marxism is the theory developed by Karl Marx

that focuses on the role of class struggle in shaping

history and culture. According to Marxism, the dominant

class in any society controls the means of production and

uses this power to maintain its position, while the working

class is oppressed and exploited. Marx believed that history

was driven by a series of class struggles, culminating in a

proletarian revolution what would overthrow capitalism.

While Culture Materialism is the theory developed by

Raymond Williams, this theory focuses on the ways in which

materials conditions and economic systems shape culture and

history. According to cultural materialism, the way people

think and behave is influenced by their social and economic

environment, and this environment can be studied

scientifically to understand cultural change over time.

For this study, the researchers use qualitative

approach.Qualitative research is a type of research that

explores and provides deeper insights into real-world

problems. Instead of collecting numerical data points or

intervene or introduce treatments just like in quantitative

research, qualitative research helps generate hypotheses as

well as further investigate and understand quantitative

data. Qualitative research gathers participants'

experiences, perceptions, and behavior. It answers the how

and why instead of how many or how much. It could be

structured as a stand-alone study, purely relying on

qualitative data or it could be part of mixed-methods

research that combines qualitative and quantitative data.

This review introduces the readers to some basic concepts,

definitions, terminology, and application of qualitative

research

Research Locale

The study is conducted at Restituto B. Peria National

High School in the Division of Nueva Ecija. The Restituto B.

Research Instrument

This study used printed feedback questionnaires. A

printed feedback questionnaire is a physical document or

form that is designed to collect information and opinions

from individuals through a structured set of questions. It

is typically distributed in a printed format, such as on

paper, and can be handed out or mailed to respondents for

them to fill out.

The questionnaire consists of a series of questions or

statements related to a particular topic or subject of

interest. These questions are often multiple-choice, rating

scales, or open-ended, allowing respondents to provide their

feedback, opinions, or suggestions in a written format.

Printed feedback questionnaires are commonly used in

various settings, including businesses, educational

institutions, market research, customer satisfaction

surveys, and other areas were gathering feedback and data

from a large number of individuals is desired.

29

Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, 3111
Once respondents have completed the questionnaire, they

usually return it via mail, drop-off boxes, or hand it back

directly to the organization conducting the survey. The

collected responses are then analyzed to gain insights,

identify trends, and make informed decisions based on the

feedback received.

Data Gathering Procedure

A letter of request to conduct the study was prepared.

The researcher’s students constructed a questionnaire

checklist, validated by the teacher of the subject. The

questionnaire checklists are distributed. This may conduct

the researchers in Restituo B. Peria National High School

through survey. It refers to explains the respondents of

their response to the study. It also clarifies some terms to

the respondents so that the respondents can answer the

questionnaire with full knowledge of their responsibility as

the subject of the study.

The sampling units are selected subjectively by the

researchers. In this study, the researcher’s goal is to

determine a study focusing on Preserving the Past through

Google Site they believe that this method is the most

appropriate in choosing the sample for the researcher’s

30

students. After the respondents answered the questionnaire,

the researcher collected and tallied the data for

interpretation. Based on the data the researcher comes up

with conclusion and recommendations for this study.

Research Sampling Method

In social science research, the technique of "purposive

sampling" is frequently used to pick a sample of

participants who have qualities that are thought to be

significant to the study subject at hand. Purposive sampling

includes selecting units according to pre-established

criteria, such as age, gender, occupation, or expertise, as

opposed to probability sampling approaches, where each unit

in the population has an equal chance of being chosen.

Purposive sampling seeks to guarantee that the sample

fairly represents the population or subgroup of interest and

that the data gathered is pertinent to the research subject

under consideration. Researchers can better comprehend the

phenomenon they are studying and draw more accurate

conclusions from the data they collect by choosing units

based on those features.

31

As opposed to random selection, the selection of units

in purposive sampling is dependent on subjective criteria,

which might introduce biases into the sample. Therefore,

before using this sampling strategy, researchers must

carefully analyze the purposive sampling's potential limits

and if it is appropriate for their research issue.
