Jagananna Aarogya Suraksha on January 2, 2024
The state Government rolled out second phase of Jagananna Aarogya Suraksha on
January 2, 2024. Earlier Jagananna Aarogya Suraksha (JAS-I) camp was launched in
January, 2023.
Under this the medical officers will visit every household, screen individuals, and organise
camps for testing and administering medications.
The the focus of JAS-I was on the diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from
hypertension, diabetes, leprosy, tuberculosis, and hearing problems.

undergoing eye tests.
As early intervention, such as Cochlear implants for children with hearing issues, was a
priority, such patients have been identified and referred for immediate health care.
AP POLITY 11
JAS II will specifically target chronic patients, pregnant and lactating mothers, neo-natal
and infant care, adolescent health, and persons with chronic diseases.
24. Andhra Pradesh will hold a caste census, becoming the second state
after Bihar
• The caste-based census would be helpful in alleviating the lives of oppressed classes and
taking their social empowerment to the next level. The census would help in assessing the
people who were outside the ambit of welfare schemes. The data would be useful in bringing
down the disparities.
• The government would take up a census on issues such as socio economic, education-based
employment, population disparities.
The origin of the Census in India dates back to the colonial exercise of 1881.
Census is used by the government, policymakers, academics, and others to capture the
Indian population, access resources, map social change, and
conduct delimitation exercises.
However, it has been criticized as a blunt instrument unsuited for specialized inquiry.
SECC was first conducted in 1931 which aimed to collect information on the economic
status of Indian families, both in rural and urban areas, to identify indicators of
deprivation.
It also collects data on specific caste names to evaluate the economic conditions of
different caste groups.
Census provides a general portrait of the Indian population, while SECC is used to identify
beneficiaries of state support.
Census data is confidential under the Census Act of 1948, while personal information in
SECC is open for use by government departments to grant or restrict benefits to
households.
AP POLITY 12
The History of Caste-based Data Collection in India:
Caste-based data collection has a long history in India, with information on castes being
included upto 1931.
Post 1951, the decision to stop collecting caste data was made to move away from a divisive
approach and promote national unity.
However, with changing socio-political dynamics and the need for accurate information,
there has been a renewed call for a caste census.
Constitutional Mandate:
Our Constitution too favours conducting a caste census. Article 340 mandates the
appointment of a commission to investigate the conditions of socially and educationally
backward classes and make recommendations as to the steps that should be taken by
governments.

The decision of the Union government to provide ₹5,300-crore assistance to the
Upper Bhadra Lift Irrigation Project, which will divert 29.90 tmcft of water from Tunga
and Bhadra to irrigate central Karnataka areas, has created a sense of deprivation among
the people of Kurnool and Anantapur districts, as it could deprive them or delay getting
their share of allocated water from the Tungabhadra Dam.
● “It is unfair on behalf of the Centre to ignore the Siddeswaram and Gundrevula projects
while according national status to the Upper Bhadra Project. In the second stage, lifting of
29.90 tmcft of water from Bhadra to a tunnel near Ajjampura, in Tungabhadra sub-basin
of Krishna basin, will affect the region very badly but the Andhra Pradesh politicians seem

AzaadiSAT-2 into 450 km circular orbit.
The launch vehicle which has the capacity to launch mini, micro or nano satellites into
500 km planar orbit has three stages of solid propulsion and liquid propulsion based
velocity trimming module. It provides low-cost access to space, offers low turn-around
time and flexibility in accommodating multiple satellites and demands minimal launch
infrastructure.

The mission objective was to design and develop payload instruments compatible with a
micro satellite bus and new technologies that are required for future operational satellites
and to design and develop a micro satellite accommodating new technology payloads in a
quick turn-around time.
The 10.2kg Janus-1 is a technology demonstrator smart satellite, based on USA’s Antaris
software platform. On the other hand, the AzaadiSAT-2 weighing around 8.8kg has been
developed by a team of Space Kidz India, a Chennai based Indian Aerospace Startup.
About 750 girl students were guided to develop the payloads. The NanoSAT aims to
demonstrate LoRa and amateur radio communication capabilities, measuring radiation
