A NARRATIVE REPORT
ON
ORAL READING PROGRESS TEST

Oral Reading Progress Test is the ability to read connected words

accurately. In doing so; students who read with accuracy are likely to comprehend
because they are able to focus on the meaning of the text. It is also used for
monitoring the progress of individual students who are at risk for later
detrimental reading outcomes.

In line with this, a Pretest activity was enthusiastically conducted in the

respective rooms of Grade VII (Galileo/ Newton) last August 12, 2015 with 81
takers. Being a neophyte in the school, students were timid when they started
reading but gained confidence in a minute. Most of them hardly recognized
words. In fact, they got numerous mistakes in substitution, repetition and
pronunciation. The latter counted most which were resulted to Instructional level.
After this, students’ comprehension will be checked through answering questions
which was labeled them frustrated.

Months passed, Post test was conducted on the 8 th day of March, 2016 with
an actual takers of 68 .They were very glad because it’s the same reading piece as
before, which will give them the chance to correct their mistakes. Although they
still got most numbers in substitution, repetition and pronunciation, it’s unlike the
old time that lines were thickly seen. As usual, when their comprehension was
evaluated, happy faces marked on them because their label abruptly turned to
Independent level.

Indeed, the said activity ended joyfully with a thought in mind that reading must
put into practice because it’s one of the several critical components required for
successful reading comprehension.
