Buwan ng Wika

Shannin Mae B. Reyes

The month of August marks CBD College’s month long celebration of the National
Language Month (Buwan ng Wika) with this year’s theme "Wikang Katutubo: Tungo sa Isang
Bansang Filipino”. It was a dynamic and interactive festivity as the educators, management and
students collaborated to make the said event very successful. Our teachers greatly encouraged us,
learners, to showcase what we truly got by letting us flaunt our different talents in coordination
with the variety of activities that were prepared in respect with our Filipino culture. Furthermore,
the Supreme Student Council led by Mr. Rondec Padigos and Ms. Jufea Romarie Villanueva,
president of the said organization, embolden our Filipino spirits as they encouraged us to speak
our national language which is Filipino. As we give emphasis on our own culture we were also
taken back in time as we wore our extravagant Filipiñana, Barong Tagalog and Katutubong
Kasuotan making us all stand out.

This culminating activity happened on the 30th of August 2019 having the Pista sa Nayon as the
highlight. Even elementary students were engaged to be involved in the activity as they prepared
for their own Pista sa Nayon earlier in the morning on that day. After adorning their designated
places they also have a mini show as the young learners presented their talents such as singing
cultural songs, cultural dancing, doing spoken poetry and presenting their artworks and vibrant
costumes to the crowd. The judgment of the winners and the feast they celebrated together
concluded the Buwan ng Wika celebration of the younger levels and the start of the feast for the
High School Department. It was roughly around 11 o’clock in the morning when the activities of
the higher department started. The delicious banquet of Filipino foods and delicacies were first
judged by each teachers and although the students were already hungry they still presented their
best selves as they accommodate the teachers with a warm welcome and a genuine smile
seemingly depicting the culture that is embedded within us Filipinos, our hospitality. When
lunch time came, everyone took a break as they feasted the foods they prepared before resuming
the program. After a bountiful lunch, students then started to present their own pieces such as
their Sabayang Pagbigkas, Folk Dances with a taste of modernity and Harana. Indeed the
celebration of the Buwan ng Wika is one of the highlights of CBD College as it proved how we
should not forget our culture and tradition as they serve as our roots no matter where we go.
Nutrition Month
Glydel M. Salme

Staying fit and strong is always the top-most priority of every human. We students must
also have to maintain our best shapes to be able to do all the responsibilities that we have on our
shoulders. The month of July then marks the annual celebration of the Nutrition Month which
reminded us to be always healthy for life requires us to be a fighter not just against its adversities
but also against the diseases and viruses that may come our way. This year’s theme centralizes
on how we should be both active and conscious in eating for our holistic improvement is the
main aspect we should be focusing entitling the celebration as “Kumain nang Wasto at Maging
Aktibo. Push Natin ‘To!”. As the Nutrition Month rolls in, the Grade 9 and the Grade 10 students
showed their skills in cooking various healthy dishes which were judged by the teachers. Along
with it, all grade levels participated as well in creating beautiful posters as they wacked their wits
to present not just a beautiful piece of art but a meaningful slogan as well.

The event proper happened at exactly 1 o’clock in the afternoon and the grade school learners
started it with a bang! They showed their talents in singing and dancing as the music
accompanied them with vibrant energy and raw enthusiast engaging us to be healthier and wiser
in choosing foods. After the energetic performances of the grades 1, 2 and 3 levels the speech
choir of the grades 4, 5 and 6 followed then after. Furthermore, a beauty pageant unfolded right
in front of our eyes as the candidates showcased both glamour and elegance as they paraded their
costumes filled with fruits and vegetables. The program continued splendidly as the students
showed how active they are as they engaged everyone to be a part of their Zumbas. It was a lot
more meaningful as Mr. Rondec Padigos, Ms. Simone Seriño, Ms. Fatima Lalic, Ms. Vela
Diagon and The Trios sang in between the program which gave off a different kind of vibe. A
video presentation of the hard work of each student was shown before the culminating activity
ended. Indeed it was not just an activity for encouragement to a holistic improvement but an
activity that showed the camaraderie, passion and determination of each one to promote health
and well-being.
