OES the Best!

Extended Program “Gulayan sa Tahanan”

By: CARISSA JOYCE G. SINLAO
“Alone, we can do so little,
Together, we can do so much”

As Department of Education (DepEd) has strengthened the implementation of the

Enhanced Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (EGPP) in public elementary and secondary schools, the
Olo-Olo Elementary School implements an extended program at home “ Gulayan sa Tahanan”
through the initiative of our active School Principal , Mrs. Eliza H. Sumalbag.
The Olo-Olo Elementary School implemented this program with the help of our
supportive stakeholders. We have witnessed the positive impact of the Gulayan sa Paaralan that
is why we came to an idea that extending it at home will help the learners develop sense of
responsibility through help of their parents.
The teachers of OES urged the parents to take part in this program as we always knew
that learning starts from home. Mrs. Eliza H. Sumalbag said one time “ We can never make it
without you my dear parents”.
The school have asked the learner’s parents to monitor the activities taken for the
“Gulayan sa Tahanan” documentation. They also serve as a guide to their son/daughter in order
for them to take care their plants properly.
Olo-olo Elementary School held up high for implementing this Program for it aims to be
an eye opener to the community the importance of agriculture.
It is indeed that education starts at home and as we take step in the future, learning should
be nonstop either we have it in school or at home.
This program proves the OES is the BEST.

Teaching profession requires a lot of understanding, patience, sacrifice, commitment and

perseverance. Teachers’ day is celebrated in order to give honor and to recognize their efforts
and dedication in molding the young children and their contribution to the community and to the
society as a whole.
OES celebrated the World Teachers’ Day on October 4, 2022 at the newly built covered
court. A short program was prepared in order to entertain them. Each grade presented songs and
dances dedicated to the teachers. They also received awards and recognitions for their
outstanding performance. After the short program, the parents prepared foods for the “salo-
salo”.
The simple celebration is worth remembering because everyone enjoyed with a sweet
smile.
Santiago: A Destination Wonder
By: Rosemarie Ellorin

From the glistening seas and towering mountains, there is no doubt that the town of
Santiago located in Ilocos Sur province is a treasure that is jam-packed with breathtaking
sceneries.
As a resident of Santiago, I must say that we can keep up with other famous natural spots
here in the Philippines. I am not lying when I say we have similar beaches that can topple the
precious white sands of Boracay and we also have mountains that you can hike and trek when
you are feeling adventurous.
Ladies and Gents, I present to you one of the gems of our town, the Santiago Cove. You
don’t have to travel by plane or sail a ship to go to Boracay or El Nido just to experience the
white sand beaches because here in the town of Santiago, we have a similar coastal setting. We
got a white sand beach, clean salt waters, delicious foods, and to top it all up, we have Santorini-
inspired buildings to elevate your expectations.
Put on your hiking shoes and pack up your water because we are going to the peak! If
you truly want to embrace nature, Santiago has got you covered because it has mountains that
you can hike or trek. One example is the “Tapaw” located in the borders of barangay Olo-olo Sur
and Salincub. All your energy will be replenished after you reach the top because you will be
rewarded by a serene and spectacular sight where you can see most of the entirety of Santiago.
From the wondrous sights and delicious local delicacies, you will surely be surprised
what Santiago has to offer. So what are you waiting for? Plan your trip and pack your bags
because Santiago will welcome you with open arms. Go go go Santiago!

Winning is not all about having a place or an award, the knowledge and experience is the
essence of every competition.
National Children’s Month is celebrated in November in the Philippines every year. This month-
long celebration aims to give Filipino children access to a healthy environment, good education,
and healthcare. Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippines’ national hero, once said that the youth is the
future of the nation, and investing in children is key for the betterment of the next generation.
This holiday also comes from a place of empathy. As a third-world country, most families
struggle financially, and it’s the children who suffer the most. This month highlights the ways we
can help and support them.
