Lesson Title Knowing Vector Using Kite (Inspired by Kaghati Kite)

Time 2 x 45 minutes

Guiding What is the implementation of vector in daily life?

Question(s)

Learning By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

Objectives  Determine the components of vector
 Find the vector length
 Determine the vector position

Prerequisite Concept of the vector, components of vector

Knowledge

materials/used paper, bamboo sticks, threads, glue, scissors,

Materials
cutters, worksheets

Resources books, internet, youtube, handout

This section will discuss about vectors. In order for students to be
Outline of Activity
interested in learning vectors, an ethnomathematics-based learning
design was made, using the story of the Kaghati kite. The kaghati
kite is the oldest kite in the world which is located on Muna Island,
Southeast Sulawesi province.
Activity 1:
Students watch the video of Kaghati Kolope from Muna Island. Next
is presented the philosophy of making Kaghati, the culture that
existed at the time of making and flying Kaghati.
Activity 2:
Students and their group mates were asked to make kites from
waste materials/paper as one of the representations of making
Kaghati that is environmentally friendly (because the materials for
making Kaghati are difficult to obtain).
Activity 3:
Playing and flying kites. Determines the center point O(0,0).
Measures the distance a kite has flown vertically or horizontally.
Measure the length of the kite string from the center point O when
the kite reaches a certain height.
Activity 4:
Discuss about components of vector, length of vector, and vector
position. Conecting the discussion with data that they have. One of
the students presented data from their observations and
measurements when playing a kite. Students present vector
components, vector lengths, and position vectors based on the data
obtained.

Special Vocabulary Kaghati Kolope kite, components of vector, length of vector, vector position, center
point O (0,0)
