KPT CHANGE

If a Finnish word has K, P or T in


the middle of it, be careful. The
word may have a strong stem
and a weak stem. The strong
stem is used in partitive while Double letters are easy. You just

Weak stem plus genitive:

One K:
Two things might happen if your word has
one K:
JALKA JALA+N
This is the most common case. The K just
disappears.

NK turns into NG in the weak form.
One P:
If your word has one P, two things might
happen:
RAPU RAVU+N
P turning into a V is the most common case.
KAMPA KAMMA+N
This only applies to MP. MP turns into MM.

One T:
If your word has one T, a couple of things might
happen: NOTE!
KATU KADU+N
T turning into a D is the most common case. Be These combinations do not have KPT change.
